It seems to me that I remember, going WAYYY back, that they used to drink pickle juice during the August football training camps. This was before there was Gatorade and other electrolyte drinks.

I wouldn’t mind giving that a try. When I am REALLY thirsty I’ll take a couple swigs straight from the pickle jar…nothing quenches my thirst better…especially after a really hot day outside doing yard work. I’ve never really thought of trying it after training…I guess I just reach for the usual sport drink.
My dad worked construction work for a while and swore by vinagar in his water.
Has anybody tried this stuff?
Yep I have tried it several times but have bought any. I actually really liked the taste since I can drink a jar full of pickle juice.
There are actually some studies out there showing pickle juice to be really effective at getting salt back into. Most of it was done with NFL players in training camp. Some of those guys sweat so much and so saltly there is no way to put the water back in fast enough. So they’ve been trying to get as much water back in as possible and really trying to get the electrolytes back in with things like pickle juice.
In longer races I crave pickles, mainly for the salt. I used PJS for my Half last year and it really helped me. I carried it in my tri jersey pocket, and sipped on it between the Gatorade and water. I’ve also used Saladitos (dried plums covered in salt) Pop one in your mouth and BAM! Salt heaven
I believe the Pickle Juice drink is not 100%, pure pickle juice; it adds some extra stuff, like high fructose corn syrup, or similar. Still, the stuff worked amazingly well for me on some races I’d done the past few months. As advertised, no cramps.//d
