I’m interested in learning some basic physiology. Can someone point me to a textbook or other resources to get started?
Both general texts that may give you some light reading:
Marieb-Human anatomy and physiology
Mcardle/katch/katch-exercise physiology
.
Stanfield and Germann- Principals of Human system physiology. This is what I used in physiology class and it’s very informative.
x2 on the Mcardle, Katch, & Katch- Exercise physiology. Bit of a daunting book but also very helpful.
McArdle, as in the syndrome?
x3 on mcardle… I love mine, but if you are just starting out it may be helpful to look at web sites for intro phys classes at a local college (or exercise phys depending on what you want) and see what they use, you may even run into some good free online resources that way
x4 on McArdle, McArdle, Katch
.
Mcardle is the classic college level textbook for exercise physiology
Marieb is a better all-around Anatomy and physiology text.
Powers and Howley have done some pretty good work
George Brooks’ book does an awesome job at looking at the biochemistry / cellular physiology.
Itunes University- Dr. Andy Doyle, Class KH3650 020

If you just want to “get started”, then the most accessible, sport relevant Ex Phys text is likely Wilmore, Costill and Kenney.
I use this for my online undergrad Ex Phys class, and this is what we use as the slideset for the USA Cycling certification course.
Someone else mentioned Powers and Howley, which I use for my in-person undergrad class, and this is also accessible, but probably not as relevant to the performance minded.
McCardle, Katch and Katch is a comprehensive undergrad text, but also may be somewhat overkill for someone looking more for an “essentials” approach a neophyte might appreciate.
Astrand’s Textbook of Work Physiology is also a fairly comprehensive treatment of the discipline, and quite a good text. It’s a bit dated, but it was really the first good Ex Phys text.

Brooks, Fahey and Baldwin is a very good text. Not really as comprehensive as McCardle, Katch and Katch, but more substantial and in-depth than Wilmore, Costill and Kenney or Powers and Howley.

Hope this helps.
Lore of running by Nokes is also a good manual. Not a college level textbook, but very informative none the less regarding sports performance.
Yeah, at the end of August I’ll sell you the A&P I book I just bought for summer class, $203, what a deal.
