I admit that I never was a big fan of the swim, but seeing lake San Antonio bone dry makes me feel sad.

Based on the first pic, they might still be able to have the swim (the blue house is about 400m from the usual swim exit, right?)…it’ll just be a long run to T1 ;).

Wow. So they moved the dock down to Harris Creek? Crazy, but still looks like plenty of water down there.

ya, if that first photo is current, I’m less worried than I was. still terrible, but, looks to be do-able (swim wise).

fingers crossed.

3rd photo is awesome. Nicely played

You know, the Mojave Desert used to be covered in water.

Tri-Cal has been adamant that the swim is still on - even with no more rain - but the swim would be from Harris Creek not the usual Lynch area. Here’s one of their recent posts on Facebook:

Here is a note from CEO, Terry Davis.Even though Lake San Antonio water levels are very low (5% of capacity) we are moving forward in the planning of the race. “We will definitely have the Wildflower Triathlons in 2014,” says Terry Davis, race director since 1983. “This is the lowest I have seen the lake since it was built,” says Terry, “but it looks worse than it really is. There is still 2.5 miles of water from Harris Creek to the dam. So even today triathletes could swim the long course swim in the lake if they wanted too.” Davis continues “The good news is that if we get normal rains we should be back to our swim start at the Lynch area. In a worse-case scenario we would have the swim from Harris Creek like we had to do in 1993.” Tri-California has already met with the Monterey County Parks Department and we are thrilled to announce there is a swim course currently set up at Harris Creek.

I guess the urine won’t be quite as diluted this year
.

The mass start of photo 3 is gonna be truly grueling! Guaranteed goggle loss and elbows to the face.

For long course, so if they swim HC to the dam, wonder if they drop Beach Hill and people climb out of T1 via the Pit, since the road to the bottom of beach is a trail.

Run would just be a re-working of the loop, but a couple miles after the Lynch descent?

Ripped from a repost of a repost of someone’s FB post (apologies to the owner for non-attribution):

Team In Training will be on-site this weekend for their training event, so expect to get more updates soon.

That looks crazy. Loved it when I was there a few years ago. Great race.

I was looking at the lake from gmap-pedometer.com, satellite view. If the swim were to be held at the usual Lynch Hill, it would be really close to one-fifth of a mile run to get out of the lake and into the big parking lot that is T1. That is MUCH farther than other years.

They have said they will likely have the swim at Harris Creek, basically the dock at the bottom of the pit. I assume t1 would have to be there as well…

Having raced the long course for 20 years.

I wish Tri Cal would let us know the exact race plan… I know a lot of athletes are waiting on pulling the trigger on this race.

Will they use the normal transition area or move to the Harris Creek area for T1? I will reach out to them this week…

last email i got from them in the last 2 weeks

Raining in Mty county now -----a big 2 day storm coming Fri/Sat. We will most likely swim out of Harris Creek this year – water is plenty deep there now for all 3 races distances. They have the buoys set now for anyone that wants to do the practice swim there. Ann Ann McElyea Customer Service Director Tri-California Events

Wildflower Triathlons Race Update: The Tri-California Race Crew is announcing that The Wildflower Triathlons swim will take place out of Harris Creek (2 miles east of the Lynch Area) if water levels do not reach the Lynch launch ramp by race day.

After completing the swim, Long Course and Olympic Distance participants will exit the water and transition at Harris Creek for a 2.2 mile run along the shoreline back to the Lynch Transition Area. From there, athletes will head out… on unchanged bike courses for both the Long Course and Olympic Distance race.
Due to the 2.2 mile run after the swim, we will be subtracting 2.2 miles off the final run portion for both the Long Course and Olympic Distance race.
This year, we are excited to introduce a new Mountain Bike course transitioning out of Harris Creek.

The unmatched and “uniquely Wildflower” festivities of wine tasting, live music, movie night, kid’s zone and more will continue to take place in the Lynch Festival Area. After 32 years, the Tri-California Staff feels confident in the production of this year’s event and looks forward to sharing many more memories with you.
Alternative course information will be available at www.tricalifornia.com soon.

Solves my dilemma… not racing this year.

EDIT: How are they going to do that without completely altering the run course? It’s a big ass loop, you can’t just shorten it.

Good question. One area is the Pit. how long is that? They could also re-route the run thru the campground to stay on the road I guess.
