Here you go guys, I’ve been promising this for a while - bike porn galore:
Modified Kalibur with Oval jetstream fork added and custom upper headset race to reduce stress on spacer stack, Tom D’s customised oval bars and bike position, Q rings, etc, etc.
and now the customised GT idrive with low key paintwork, bling hubs, etc ,etc. I’ll be using this in Xterra’s next year. and lastly my track bike which I’m racing in the pursuit at the UCI world masters track champs later this year. Bryce.
How does it feel going from Q-Rings to standard rings? The only comparison I’m able to make is between my road bikes (all Q-Rings) and my single-speed MTB (standard ring). I thought I’d notice a huge difference, but I don’t. Of course, my performance may be different and I simply can’t tell.
It seems like alot of rise- spacers, +rise stem and then spacers on the arm rests-.\

IT’s not just that, it’s that the top tubes are very long relative to their height. Thus why his saddle is so far above the top tube. Even with those spacers, he still has a lot of saddle/arm pad drop.
And here’s a dude who gets it… nice solid drop between pads and base bar, giving a reasonable position when on the hoods/brakes instead of sky-high. Nice. Of course, that wouldn’t be needed if Oval and Hed made their bars down-sloping, as they should be.
Yes. The Hed3c doesn’t have the same momentum (due to it being lighter at the rim). It sounds odd but I may swtich back to my old one as prefer that feel on rolling courses. I’ll be experimenting with adding flywheel weights to the wheels soon.
It was more by neccesity. when i went to the US last year to be bike fitted by Tom D we had to space the bars up like that to get me to fit. Notice how the S bends are unusual in shape by being high in the bend ? Tom found those for me and allow me to get a really nice ride feel.

I found it odd for the first week and then didn’t notice them (you notice it when you go back to rounds rings though). I’m working towards two big races as of this week and I think these may help. I will compare notes with Gary T at some stage but i still use mine in the recommended starter setting.
