Photo(s) of zip tied rear bottle cages to saddle?

The last Ironman male winner had this setup. I have not seen any closeups of what this exactly looked like or how it is done to prevent excess play.

I saw that too and wondered if it was just holding flat repair equipment since he had hydration on the aerobars and in the frame itself…

Well if you look at this pic…

It’s an xlab gorilla cage… for what that’s worth…

Ah didn’t search far enough - here’s a good image: http://triathlete-europe.competitor.com/2011/10/05/kona-pro-bike-check-craig-alexanders-new-specialized-shiv/?pid=4754

I am not sure if I should be giving away his secrets, but I saw Matt Lieto’s design and in addition to the zip ties he used tape to stick the bottom of the cage his seat post. He said it worked well for him.

This is a good idea actually, as my cage wore some of the carbon off my seatpost. I figured it out before it did too much damage, but some tape would have kept it from wearing.

Small pieces of spongy double-sided tape (eg, my stuff is 3M), maybe even a few of layers for extra protection, stuck on post where the cage rests against it works a treat. Probably adds a bit of support as well since you can really yank on the zip ties, sink the cage into the tape and it probably absorbs some road shock too. I set up double behind saddle cages this way, and infinitely better than anything else I tried in the past.

That is what I have done with mine. I used clear 2 sided tape and you can’t even tell it is on the seat post. Works awesome to protect from scratches.

On the picture of Alexander’s where do the top zip ties go through? IS there a hole drilled in the saddle or something i’m not seeing?

This is from the tririg sight. Just zip tied to the rails of the saddle it looks like. Pretty sturdy…

No pictures to post since I don’t have any yet. I can take some tonight and email you. I zip-tied my repair kit bottle to my seat and relied on my downtube bottle mount and my handlebar bottle (that I also mounted with zip-ties). Both worked really well and I will utilize this same set-up from here on out. I used this set-up for IMC.

They work pretty dang well. Seriously. I’ve DONE the zip tie trick and the tape trick. But this actually works pretty dang good. I think I bought 2 off Amazon recently for $9.

The upper zip ties are going through fizik’s proprietary ICS saddlebag mounting system, which has a hole in that spot. So this bottle mounting method won’t really work on other saddle brands.
