Phonak's BMC bikes, Campy but no carbon?

Looking at Phonak’s new BMC bikes for 2004 I’m intrigued to know why they opted to use the Campy Record groupset without the carbon chainset and using the alloy one instead.

The picture you posted looks to be Chorus. These are probably their training bikes which they were picking up at the presentation. Perhaps the race bikes aren’t ready yet - I doubt many teams have issued all their equipment so early in the year.

We’ve been told the supply of new '04 Record carbon cranks is extremely limited. That may be a factor.

The U.S. wholesale distributor for the BMC bikes is Quality Bicycle Products. If you want one of the super cool, very expensive (about $2899.99 frame and fork) SL01 framesets you can get it at your LBS through Quality. ETA on frames is 70 days from today.

The new Record espeically the carbon cranks are in limted supply. The carbon cranks are not yet available in all sizes.

Jelly Belly and Navigators are riding Chorus right now too.
