Phoenix, AZ (lap swim? 50m?)

Hello friends,

Traveling to downtown Phoenix (staying at Hampton Inn and Suites Downtown Phoenix) tomorrow and looking for a solid place to lap swim. 50m preferred.

Any recommendations close to the hotel?

I appreciate it.

Thanks,
Jason

there are some nice options in Scottsdale. https://www.scottsdaleaz.gov/sports/aquatics

I don’t live in AZ, but my brother does, and I’ve swam there in those very pools every time I visit him.

The Phoenix/Scottsdale public pools are freaking awesome. I literally get so jealous of how awesome they are, as I live in $$$$ Norcal, heart of Silicon Valley, where there is an incredibly high number of triathletes (might actually be THE highest total # of triathletes in the US, if not it’s in the top 3 for sure), and it’s shocking to me how few good public outdoor pool options for lap swim we have.

The AZ pool hours are awesome, and the pools are so big that I’ve never had to circle swim there, even at peak lunch or evening swim hours. in contrast here in Norcal, the few public swim options have really, really limited hours and are super crowded - every lane taken for sure.

Definitely look forward to your pool swimming in AZ - but bring lots of suncreen!

3rd the Scottsdale Parks and Rec pools.

But you should be trail running in the desert, not swimming… South Mountain is great for that.

Also, the greenbelt (running up the middle of Scottsdale for many miles through beautiful linked parks) is part of the park district. So you could swim at a park’s facilities and run forever along the greenbelt and be in the same park system for a few hours, and be parked in the same lot.

Man I miss the desert.

I don’t think there are many options downtown. There is a Y with an indoor pool. I swim at Scottsdale Cactus pool. The Scottsdale pools all very nice but are not close to downtown. Maybe a $15-20 Uber trip non rush hour from downtown.

Check out Phoenix Swim Club’s website for their Masters schedule, you can drop in for a few $. They swim at the 50 meter pool at Phoenix Country Day school in the Biltmore area just northeast of downtown. Considerably closer than Scottsdale’s Cactus Pool to downtown Phoenix. Wish we were giving you a more sunny day than tomorrow’s forecast!

I am so appreciative of the effort and time everyone put in to providing options. Excited to get to Phoenix (today) and grab a swim tomorrow AM. Best of luck with training.

Thank you,
Jason

maybe the ASU pool is open to the public? It’s in Tempe - I think it’s in scy right now (I was there last week and walked by it, didn’t have a chance to swim)

I live in Scottsdale, and yes the pools here are great. But I’d second the post about ASU - if you can fit it into your schedule and don’t have a car, it will be much easier logistically to take the light rail line to Tempe and hook up with ASU Masters Swimming: www.swimdevils.com
