I just registered for IM 70.3 Florida in May and would like to do some long course work outs over the winter through spring. I usually swim at my local club ACAC or YMCA in a 25 yard pool and I have access to an outdoor 50 meter pool in the summer at the YMCA. I’d be willing to travel somewhat within the tri state area if there was an indoor 50 meter pool open to the public. I know U Penn has a 50 meter but you must be accompanied by a student or be an alumni.
A long time ago when I started traveling. someone shared this with me: http://www.swimmersguide.com/query/Main1.cfm
A quick scan not knowing the area shows two 50m pools:

Hi! It’s my first post here after lurking for a long time. I’m a student at UPenn and, even though it’s 50m indeed, the pool is actually divided into a 25m and a 25y part. As far as I know they never un-divide it, so no luck here.
There’s a 50m pool in Fairmount Park, the Kelly Pool, however it’s only open during the summer. I think it’s an outdoor pool.
Khai swimmerguide came though for me, this is a great resource! There is a 50 meter indoor pool at the aquatic fitness center in Bala Cynwyd which is within a reasonable drive from me. Hopefully there will be a flexible membership option that will allow me to use the facility.
JjhonnyNine thanks for the clarification about UPenn. Welcome to ST!
PFAC is a good pool if you like it warm around 84F. The pool is actually 55 yards, about 11 inches longer than 50 meters. I’m not sure about the pool at Penn, but I thought I recall some long course hours on their schedule a few years back. There is another one at GCIT and one in Cape May on the Coast Guard Base. BTW, the ocean is still in the mid-40s, plenty warm for a wetsuit swim. There is also one at my future estate that hasn’t been built yet. I will keep you posted.
Do you swim for Atlantic City Aquatic Club?
Glad to hear it. I hope it works out for you.
Okay call me a wimp but I’ll definatley pass on swimming in the ocean this time of year, even with a wetsuit. I don’t swim for the Atlantic City Aquatic club, I live in Chester County PA. The closest indoor 50 meter pool I have been able to find is here http://www.theaquaticandfitnesscenter.com/facility.cfm?amenities=2&local=14 which is located in NE Philadelphia. This would take me a bit over an hour to get to, but the membership director told me he would only charge me $10.00 to use the pool if I was only going intermittently. Not a bad deal really. I’m assuming PFAC is in Atlantic City which would be bit longer than I want to travel. Yea I’ve also been dreaming of buying an estate with a pre-existing 50 meter pool and a 400 meter track. It sure would be convienient for brick work outs!

Kelly pool is definitely an outdoor pool. Haven’t been there since 1983, but it wasn’t that nice a pool to swim in then. That Jonty Skinner swam a 49.44 100 meters there in 1976 makes him the best 100 freestyler in history in my book.
What defines intermittently?
I swim at PAFC and live out in King of Prussia.
I only go about 8 times max per month and I still pay $39/mo which is ridiculous!
Did they tell you how many times a month you can swim for that price?!?!?
Thanks!
I am also inquiring as the last post states… How many times did they tell you that you could use the pool for $10?? Is this something they were calling a pool membership? Can you clarify? Thanks
By intermittent I mean probably once every two weeks give or take. If there was a 50 meter closer I would go more often. I think the $10 is for each visit. To clarify, what and where is PAFC? It must be relatively close if you travel there 8 times per month from King of Prussia. I’m only about 20 minutes west of you in Chester Springs.
PFAC is the same as the website you posted in NE Philadelphia. The photo on the website makes their pool look a lot nicer than it is in reality.
