Petition for a women's category (main forum version of petition)

Dear mods,

I think the womens forum disappeared before everything got restructured (though I can’t entirely recall). Can we please have a womens category?

I’m not shy and don’t mind starting a womens general thread / specific stuff here or the tri forum (as appropriate), but I think some other women might be.

Please sign my petition  male signatures welcome too, obviously. I can’t imagine all of you want my whining about feeling irrationally angry and also wanting to cry from hormones front and center…

With all the sub categories we have, given that half the population are women it seems like it would be an easy upgrade to the structure of this place. We even have a category for people who want to talk politics (well I have it muted, but does it still exist?)

Never understood why so few women posted on the Womens Forum. I think in the last half year it was pretty much only you and Cathy posting anything.

I think we just don’t have a ton of womens - but I also think there were a lot of lurkers, because when the WF disappeared, there were a lot of replies on the main thread.

We are underrepresented! Support minorities!

forget politics, we have a forum for swimming, a sport which most ST’ers seem to care little about

Seriously, it may be an opportunity for ST to reach out to the world, saying they are re launching it because there is a need and recruit more users who are women. I have not been in the swim forum sub thread, and I may have viewed the women’s forum 2-3x per year, however, I had been encouraging women triathlete friends to join and engage as a unique resource on the internet. I think part of it is people create their own curated groups with friends on facebook but the reach is only as good as people they know/are connected to.

And some of us have quit swimming entirely when they realized they were old and life was too short to keep doing someing they despised.

In fairness in all the years I can’t think of a single ‘manly’ thing that has happened on the open forum. However in the hope this is the start of a move to creating safe spaces I support it and hope in the future you will support the creation of a sub area where sarcasm is permitted without needing neon signing posting. Would be dead easy to control too as I assume that the mods can just hide it from anyone with a US IP address.

I talked with the mods and they dont think there will be enough engagement. I understand the reasoning, and that’s fine.

It’s not so much that “manly” stuff happens as I have been shy of posting some girl-related questions before, and if I am shy about it (I am very not shy generally) I figure other women might be terrified.

Fortunately, there’s always the “dm another woman” option.
