Intresting interview with Tadej Pogacar.
I watched it this morning, and was impressed with both interviewer and interviewee! I didn’t know Tadej was already equipped to transition to triathlon after his pro cycling career. Well, in fairness, maybe he hasn’t put 1+1+1 together yet, either, but give it time.
“We have a Shimano power meter but you always need to be careful with the temperatures outside, the calibration, everything,” he said. “Sometimes it can be off. You need to be careful about this.”
The shade thrown at Shimano lol
not just him ask @DCRainmaker and @GPLama… they have had a bit to say on this topic, so it is no wonder he does not trust that power meter.
Thanks for posting this link and it is interesting hearing it the day after Tadej won at worlds but this was done 15 days ago just before the UCI worldtour race in Montreal. Interesting that he is running during the off season too and also nice to hear that he likes cross country skiing. As it turns out the last guy who had the chance that Tadej had to do the Giro + Tour + Worlds triple was Indurain in 1993. Looks like Lance shut the door on Indurain getting the triple with Lance’s 1993 worlds win in Oslo (Indurain second). So here we are 31 years after the door was shut on Indurain with the triple finally done by Tadej
The PM is not so reliable - Man I almost spit my coffee. Shimano must be loving that line. Also, glad Peter didn’t do his usual “I know more than everyone” interview approach when he talks more than the interviewer.
Wondering how much he has to pay for that interview…
Just curious why do so many people around here hate Peter? Like anything you glean some info and you roll past the rest. At least he brought an interview with Tadej and whether he influenced Tadej and got it for free or he paid for it, does that really matter to us?
Dev u are reading too much into what I said
-
I don’t hate the guys in fact he is on my youtube feed
-
I don’t like the way he interview people; he talks too much instead of letting the guest. tell their story with him filling gaps here and there
-
It doesn’t really matter “to us” but every athlete in their peak usually demand a good chunk of money for interviews - just curiosity on my part - It doesn’t matter to me if it was Peter, Jon, NBC, Eurosport, etc.
All I know about him is from the show he did with Chris Hemsworth; he seemed OK
I am neutral in my opinion, therefore
IMO the reason these guys run/ski/crosstrain in the off-season isn’t pure performance, but almost entirely mental. A Bio-robot humanoid would probably be best cycling nonstop all year, but a human has emotions and needs and can be stimulated to greater performance with a bit of variety.
One of the weirdest sentences I’ve ever written
Just a hypothesis, but maybe over long term, all those hours hunched over non weight bearing on a bike may not be great for performance, and maybe balancing things out (lengthening hip flexors and psoas thru other activities) is not a bad thing for overall performance over multiple years (not the case for Tadej since he does not have enough years for much imbalances to develop from endless bike position miles.
Probably correct. If we really dive down that path you’d then have to ask what training intervention would elicit those cross training effects with either the minimal possible stress or the greatest carryover to cycling. Because any stress induced by the cross training takes away from the stress that can applied by more specific training (cycling).
But humans aren’t robots so it’s theoretical anyway
The older I get, the more I’ve aligned with your hypothesis.
I don’t remember the Podcast exactly that I’m going to reference, but it was an interview with a big name pro (maybe on GTCC or The Move). The athlete was discussing how he and many cyclists are using running in the off season these days more for weight control. He was alluding to them being shorter runs 4-5 miles. But he basically claimed that the cyclist is too efficient metabolically, and running stresses their bodies more in a shorter amount of time. Could be why these guys are keeping so close to race weight yeah round.
Running has to help with bone density, too.
