Perpetuem vs. Sustained Energy?

Is there a big difference in these two?

Taste vs no taste, respectively. (plus some mumbo-jumbo

stuff the dieticians could fill you in on)

sort of a creamsickle (only noticeable when concentrated) vs cauliflower bland.

Neither messed with my insides at all. I really like the Perpetuem.

Burns

Burns is right on taste vs no taste, but beyond that there are differences in protein:carb ratios – about 1:7 for S.E., 1:9 for Perpetuem. S.E. carries more calories than Perpetuem, but Perpetuem has a wider range of electrolytes - both have chromium and sodium, but Perp. has twice as much sodium and also contains calcium, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, copper, and iodine. Both products have the same amino acid profile. If you haven’t spent quality time at the Hammer website, head there now - ww.hammernutrition.com. I use S.E. as my pre-race meal/drink, and the very mild taste (it’s a bit more than “no taste”) sits very well with me. In long events or training sessions (longer than 3 hours) I will use Perpetuem after that three hour mark; before that I rely on H.E.E.D. I use Perpetuem primarily as a drink, but also mix it up as “perpetupaste” (3 scoops Perp. + 1/4 cup water) and slurp it from a flask. YUMMY stuff!

A warning! Due to the protein content of both products, be careful about allowing them to sit too long in a water bottle on a hot day. For IMLP I had a bottle in my bike special needs bag with just the powder in it, and also a bottle with just water. It took about 10 seconds to fill the Perp bottle with water, and I avoided the possibility of swallowing putrifaction! (However, I don’t think the day turned out hot enough to produce that effect, but it wasn’t worth taking the risk.)

Definantly check out hammers website: Hammer Nutrition’s Fueling Guide for Triathletes. Or What are the primary differences between Sustained Energy and Perpetuem?

At IMAZ I froze my bottles of Perpetum for my special needs bags, I used a insulated water bottle for the bike and a $2 cooler bag for the run bag. It kept my drinks perfect and no sour perpetum.
