Pedal suggestions (2)

Post about the new Garmin pedals made me think about ordering some new cleats…

Well, Mavic stopped making pedals. Now I am outta luck. Liked them, but I don’t think I am going to make it the rest of the summer on these cleats. I like the pedals too. Light, easy to work with, plenty of float.

Anyone have these pedals as well? Have any spare cleats? Make a suggestion for new pedals? 7 degree of float seems to be good for me. I was thinking speed play. Lets hear it!

love speedplay; will never ride anything else.

As a Campy man I hate to say it, but Shimano currently makes the best pedals. Period.

Hmmmm.

+2 on Speedplay

Speedplay Zero’s to be specific. I ran X series for a few years but the spring wire cleats wore out very fast, the plate steel cleat in the Zeros lasts much longer and the adjustable float limits are nice.

Time, I have the Xpresso 12’s on my road bike, the RXS carbon titanium on my tt bike and the ATAC carbon titanium on my mountain bike,

Check out Keywin pedals. Great system.

Awesome thanks for the help. Think ill be going with speed play or look.

I ride Shimano Ultegra PD-6700C, pretty sweet, but not so exotic.

Other than Time…

Just want to throw look in again.

Time Iclic2. Best pedals out there…
I tried cheap Shimanos and Speedplays. Shimanos were way too heavy and the Speedplays didn’t give me the control needed. An advantage of the Speedplays is that they are two sided. But I really came to love the Time pedals. Pretty low, cheap cleats, great performance.

If you want free float then Speedplay are the go. I switched from Speedplay X series to Look Keo as I didn’t need the free float of the Speedplay. I love Look Keo. Float => Speedplay otherwise Look.

Just got some time expresso 8… awsome pedals. they make shimano and time feel like the 20 year old technology that they are.

Hard to beat the Ultegra carbons. You can pick up a gently used set on eBay for low $100s

I know they’re not very popular for tri but I’m very happy with Crank Brothers Egg Beaters… light, four-sided, plenty of float. It makes life easier that I can use them on all my bikes (road, cross, mtn) too.

Personally I love Speedplays (light, adj. float, dual-sided entry, cornering clearance, walking on the cleat doesn’t wear on the clamping surface).

If you are really happy with the Mavics, there are plenty of places to get spare cleats (and even new pedals): https://www.google.com/search?q=mavic+cleats&oq=mavic+cleats&aqs=chrome.0.57j0l3j62l2.4898j0&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#safe=off&tbm=shop&sclient=psy-ab&q=mavic+cleats+7&oq=mavic+cleats+7&gs_l=serp.3...21058.21402.1.21766.2.2.0.0.0.0.91.171.2.2.0...0.0.0..1c.1.17.psy-ab.RlbDSpaVQvs&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&bvm=bv.48705608,d.cGE&fp=cebb89a653855e72&biw=1920&bih=1099

Yorkcb7,

The existing pedals are no longer available but replacement cleats and pedal parts should be stocked by the Mavic MSC at their US headquarters in Massachusetts. Any bike shop carrying Mavic should be able to order them, at least for the next few months. If you have any trouble finding replacement parts, you can PM me and I’ll do my best to locate some for you.

Moving forward, Mavic and Time announced a partnership earlier this Spring to collaborate on pedal design. This was announced on several cycling websites, see link: http://www.bicycleretailer.com/product-tech/2013/02/26/mavic-and-time-collaborate-pedal-design#.Udwg5PlWb-U

Mavic will be back with pedals but are keeping a tight lid on specifics until Eurobike, but stay tuned as that will likely be the first opportunity to see the first results of the collaboration between Mavic and Time. As Time is a leader in lightweight pedals with great biomechanics, Mavic can only stand to benefit from sharing technology from a specialist company like this.

Ride On!

Agreed re Time. I’ve been on Time pedals for years with solid performance and no issues. I tried Speedplay, but felt like I got hotspots on my feet with the reduced platform surface area. It could have been psychological, but I like the larger platform while still having a large float range.
