Pedal Question looking for input

I have been riding some old look pedals (not KEO) for about 4 years and am thinking of getting a new set. I am sure some of you have ridden a bunch of different sets and could provide some input.

I am thinking about the Shimano 7800 pedals. I really have no preference since all I have ever ridden is Look A.7. I am open to any style looking for pros and cons.

Thanks in advance

i just switched from some old style delta pedals to time rxs a couple weeks ago. the one big adjustment i’ve had to make is how easy it is to unclip from rxs pedals. i used to have to really tear my foot out to unclip from those delta pedals. it feels kind of strange (i.e., it feels unsecure), but intellectually i am sure that it’s not unsecure, and i haven’t unclipped or anything while riding.

If you like Look, ProBikeKit.com is selling the Keo Carbon for 139.50 CAN , free shipping. I have a pair and they are great. They come with the grey 4.5 degree float cleats.

The problem with pedals is there are just way too many brands and styles for anyone to be experienced with all of them so everyone has their own personal favorites, like me. I just switched from the older Looks to the Keo Classics and I am pleased.

I have never ridden anything but the old style Looks? So far I’ve liked them fine, but I don’t know any different. What makes the Keo’s or Time’s or whatever else any better? Is it worth $100 or so?

jimh,

you mentioned you have the keo carbons. i am looking at buying that pair as well. just wanted to know how sturdy they are? i am a big guy, 6’4’’ and 240lbs, so i am looking for something that will be solid under my feet.

I’ve been riding the Keo’s for a few years now, with the steel axle. Just this past week, I took my race bike out for a ride (I had been mostly riding my road bike up until now and hadn’t been on these pedals on the race bike since November) and on a short, steep climb, I got out of the saddle and the right pedal axle snapped in half. I managed to not crash somehow. I’m 6’1" and 185lbs. This could happen with any pedals and I do really like the Keo’s, however it does make me a bit nervous with them at the moment.

I’m 6’2" and 195, The Keo’s I have are the CroMo spindle. I have had no problems at all, and have done some standing climbs at around 5% and 67 rpm without any issue.

Hope this helps

Jim
