Just curious if anyone did this race. The guys putting it together seemed to have a great sense of humor and a clever concept, and I was hoping that the race was a success for them and anyone who did it. It looks like, perhaps, the overall winner was a woman? If so, is that a first?
I did the half. For an inaugural race, I think the directors did a great job. There were a few kinks here and there, mostly having to do with directing the athletes out on the course, I think. But oveall, it was a fun , well-organized event. It was nice to do a smaller race for my first long course. Yes, a woman won the full distance. Not sure if that’s a first…
do you have any sense as to the numbers of competitors it had? Just wondering if it is likely to be back next year. I am thinking a low key event might be nice for next year.
Numbers were pretty low, which is to be expected for a first year, long course race. I think there were about 100 in the half and 30 in the full, plus some relay teams. But, the race directors have all intentions of bringing it back next year. They mentioned there were a few deferrals from this year’s race. So that sounds positive.
I did the full. There were 27 that registered, 23 started, 22 finished.
…yes, a woman won.
I think the race was good. The guys were super nice, and you could tell that they wanted it to be a success.
More than anything, the course was hard enough. I liked that.
I did the full, it was my first, clean clear water, smooth roads with almost no traffic and super enthusiastic folks. A really good experience in all.
Congrats to all who not only finished, but to those who entered. It is quite a risk to enter a long course race with no history as a lot can go wrong. I am delighted that the guys pulled off a decent race and the day went well for those who did it. I think the organizers deserve a lot of credit for their effort. Maybe I can duck tape my body for one last go around next year.
And I still think its pretty cool a woman won.
I did it this year…also my first. Made as many mistakes as one could, and still had a great time.
The bike course was a lot harder than billed. The swim was nice, yet choppy. There was a huge distance between the middle buoys and the final turn buoys out in the lake, and with the half people wearing yellow caps, I got very disoriented on my final turn…but I found my way and finished my swim only 10 minutes slower than expected.
Never found comfort on the bike, but that was my fault…just didn’t have it. The good thing about not having put anything in on the bike…I was able to have the fastest run split of the day! Hahahahaha. Were it not for my hips giving up, I had a 3:30 marathon in me easily…I felt great. Also ran an extra half mile on course…don’t ask. Let just say, rookie mistakes.
I’ll be doing placid next year, so probably won’t do this full again, but I may volunteer or do the half. Awesome time all around…even though I missed my goal by 1 hour.
I was just an observer for the race but I think the directors did a pretty decent job overall considering the obstacles they were running into (volunteer organization backing out last minute, town pulling permits, sheriffs not being on time at certain intersections). They showed a lot of enthusiasm and I can definitely see this race growing over the coming years. I think they said that they just about broke even with this years event. With their lessons learned this might be a lot of fun and will hold a spot on my race calendar for next year.
