Pearl izumi men's pro tri speed suit review

Doing my first HIM in May. I typically like to buy a new suit for the each new tri. I have a Zoot and another off brand i cant remember that did find for my previous oly distances. However, since this will be my longest distance I am trying to do a bit more research on the suit.

I found a pretty good deal on the PI P.R.O tri speed suit ($150) and wanted to get some updated feedback from the ST forum.

Let me know what you think or if you have other suggestions. I am bigger than your average tri guy, 6’2", 210 with 33/34 inseam. I am not a big fan of the two piece, mainly for comfort and appearance/fit.

My race is in May in Florida, so no wetsuit or salwater to help speed. Any support I can get from the tri suit will be great.

I read a couple old threads with mixed review. The funniest was the “puffer fish” example on the ride due to no front zipper on the suit. However, all others on line (amazon, a blog, etc.) were positive.

Thanks for any input!

KDS!

This is what I have previously written, I have raced Sprints - Olys, 1/2s and a full IM in it. Including in weather above 80degrees. It stays reasonably cool given the lack of zipper. I have not swam without wetsuit or speed suit for what it’s worth.

Pearl Izumi Pro In R Cool Tri Singlet - Form-fitting and comfortable both on the bike and run. Very breathable and has two usable pockets. It may also be the only 1 piece that doesn’t look like it belongs in a power ranger episode, so props to Pearl for a cool-looking, great functioning product.

Thanks for the quick feedback.

Also looking at the 2xu compression if anyone has any input.

That feedback seems to be on a singlet though… that isn’t the one-piece suit you were asking about. I’m interested in this as well as my measurements are pretty close to yours and haven’t been able to find something with a good fit (6’4" / 210 lbs / 33-34 inseam). I may ride with a pair of the elite bib shorts for my IM though as they are super comfortable.

It fits great when standing, fits great in the water, fits great on the run…but if you have an aggressive position - you too will experience the “puffer fish” effect. The neck cut out is just to darn low. Notice that PI has since fixed this on their top two suits - both with zippers to close down airflow thru the neck.

Actually, I think this suit could work pretty well for xterra-style racing where ones riding position is more upright.

Just experienced "puffer " fish in the water with my new one today, threw the shirt on the pool deck after two laps. Not happy. My 2xu kit this wasn’t an issue, but the zipper gave me some nasty chaf marks on my chest , currently looking for a solution for puffing or I’ll have to get a different kit or at least top
