Peanut Butter v Cashew Butter v. Almond Butter

Trying to increase my protein/fat intake but am not a big fan of peanut butter. No joke, first taste of peanut butter and jelly was in April (Age 32) and response was, “it’s not the worst thing I’ve ever eaten.”
Anyway, I am a fan of other nut butters, particularly cashew butter. Any opinions on how natural cashew butter compares to peanut butter and other butters for use as a snack?

Nutritionally they’re all very similar. Peanuts have the highest protein/calorie ratio, almonds the highest calcium/calorie ratio. Google now has a cool feature where you can type something like “cashews vs. almonds” and it instantly pops up a nutritional comparison.

Be aware that they’re all calorically dense, and avoid premade butters with added sugar.

Eating a lot of seeds and nuts is great, and they’re all a fantastic substitute for sugar and/or fried snacks.

Did you know that cashews come from a fruit?

Man, I just discovered this stuff… I’m a big almond butter fan but I have been eating this by the spoonful(s) and can’t stop!!

Seriously? Dude, why did your parents hate you? A childhood without PB & J? Yikes!

No opinion on the choices you’ve mentioned. Peanut butter on one half of a table spoon, Nutella on the other. Just sayin’.

Peanut is a distant third here. Peanut has a horrible amino acid profile as well as lipid profile.

Almonds are the absolute best. Whole form is better than butters but not as good on a sandwich obviously.

I’m the exact opposite. Love peanut butter. In fact I grabbed a spoonful just now before opening ST. I also have a jar of Justin’s almond butter in my desk drawer and think its awful. I really wanted to like it but its nasty.

Just to double check, but the peanut butter you tried, was it the natural peanut butter - as in nothing added (sometimes a little salt is added) or was it the Jiffy style sugary treat of a peanut butter?

With regards to increasing your fat and protein intake between these almonds are the best, as their fat type is nutrionally better than cashews or peanuts. They also have the lowest carb content of the 3. Cashews I think has a highest carb content of the lot but better fats than peanuts. You should avoid too many peanuts, they don’t have quality saturated fats.

Sunflower butter is right up there too with carb content.

I’ve never liked peanut butter- since as a kid. Took a while before I liked peanut butter flavored candy/things. Now I like the flavor, but still don’t’ like peanut butter itself. i’ve tried all the different variations. Definitely runs in the family, father hated all kinds of peanut butter

I personally don’t find a major difference between natural peanut butter (crushed peanuts) and almond butter as far as texture goes. But if there isn’t a nice oil slick on the top when you first open it up, it isn’t the good stuff. Sugary stuff on the other hand is very different.

Almond butter pre-ride. Nutella during ride. Peanut butter makes my stomach feel heavy during a ride.

IIRC- they’re a member of the peach family.

peanuts are legumes, which is a bean from my understanding and not a seed or nut. I think the top of this list should be Almond butter, cashews are pretty high in fat.

I think you’re both thinking of almonds.

Also, in diet it’s worth considering the value of variety. Almond might be “better” but a good diet can include other things too. I eat almond and peanut butter myself.

You think its better then Justin’s Almond Butter? I love Justin’s just not the $12 price.
