Peaceful Tribe?

Wow, this is just what I saw today and yesterday:

Families ruin finish pictures (aka: I’m more important than you are):

Tri-Newbies smackdown (aka: we’re too cool for school):

Profanity moderator needed (aka: let’s beat up the new guy):

Bjorn’s bike split (aka: I want to have Bjorn’s baby - even if I’m a man  :

Old man drafting (aka: I own this road old man )

http://forum.slowtwitch.com/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=531174;page=1;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25;

Is it always like that?

Who called it a “peaceful tribe” ?

Oh, and the poor guy who got his P3Carbon stolen and then was dragged through the mud for locking it on a bike rack, poor proud Tom Demerly who got slammed for getting engaged to a 22 year old … rough crowd!

I mostly just read and don’t post but it’s gotten so viscious recently that I was wondering if it was the heat and humidity? A race over and nothing to do? Post-ironman blues? Gas prices?

“Is it always like this?” yes, and as long as people spend most of their time thinking that if other people change, then things will be all right, rather than changing themselves, it probably always will be. You fall into this category too.

“Who called it the peaceful tribe?” Tom Demerly, and as you can see he has a wicked sense of humour.

Discourse is good but it’s gotten nasty. Do I know you?

LOL… yeah, I guess he does.

“Families ruin finish pictures (aka: I’m more important than you are):”

It’s against the rules don’t do it.

“Tri-Newbies smackdown (aka: we’re too cool for school):”

Uhhhh competition…raceing…triathlon?

“Profanity moderator needed (aka: let’s beat up the new guy):”

Screw you!

“Bjorn’s bike split (aka: I want to have Bjorn’s baby - even if I’m a man  :”

I thought Bjorn was sterile?

“Old man drafting (aka: I own this road old man )”

Don’t draft off of people you don’t know unless you ask…What if I decide to stop suddenly to pee?

Well, for the record, I get what I deserve here. My private life has been on here- I put it here- so I have to be accepting of the potential criticism. I am.

The ability to post here under an alias sometimes gives people a comfort zone to say things they may not necessarily say to you in person. I understand that, and it is a feature of the forum.

I love the forum for a long list of reasons. It adds a lot to my enjoyment of the sport, it helps my business and attracts customers, and I learn a great deal from other posters here. It is very important to me.

In return for the benefits it is important to be reilient enough of the criticisms- some absolutely valid and others perhaps less so.

Ultimately though, I think this is a very, very well behaved group of good people who share a lot of common interests. A good place to be.

Oh do you mean because I’m a teacher? I don’t really look at educating students as “changing” them. I look at it more as enriching them and their lives. If I understand what you’re saying, though, I’m not sure how I have to change myself to teach (or “enrich” as I prefer to call it

'Do I know you?" Well I have been here before, but just took a 14-day break from Slowtwitch. Boy, do I feel better. You see what happens when I am away.

“I was wondering if it was the heat and humidity? A race over and nothing to do? Post-ironman blues? Gas prices?” yes, all of the above, plus lots of other stuff.

Feel the love, people.

I don’t agree. All of the posts you refer to had a thread of humor woven through them (granted, some of it a bit dark and biting).

Verbal sparring but no bloodletting. Like a family, spats will break out, feelings will be bruised, but at the end of the day (OK maybe a week or two) all will be peaceful again.

i think that’s well stated Tom. it’s true we can all fight at times. but, when push comes to shove, this group can come together like nobody’s business. Record’s TSR efforts, sperea’s fundraising, the bikes for kids, getting Maurice Bernier back on the road after being mugged, encouraging each other to donate to Katrina, and on and on.

i never had a big brother, but there are plenty guys here that I have slug fests with, and I know it’s all in good fun. and i’ve met some awesome people from slowtwitch (who I now consider friends)…and for that this site has been a real blessing.

we can all shrug off the occasional punch in the arm from each other i suppose…that’s why we keep coming back. Just be thankful we don’t all have thanksgiving together. HAHA!!

kittycat

Huh. Go wade over in the Lavender Room side of the pool for a while. You’ll come back over here thinking that everybody in the main forum’s only one step away from sainthood ;-))

At the end of the day, we shake hands and move on and look forward to the topics of the next day.

Well said Kittycat!

A Slowtwitch Thanksgiving? at your place ? oh yeah- I can see it now.

yes we’ll be eating pumpkin pie while riding our rollers. HA!! francois will be balancing a beer bottle on his nose. if there is no good beer, a smurf will suffice.

you’ll pay for that!
Marisol is here and she is small!!! I am not! I am a full 5’7’’ tall!

Ooh, I haven’t looked over there. Maybe I shouldn’t

I agree we’re somewhat of a family … but a “peaceful tribe”?

We all love to fight too much to be peaceful. But, yes, we are a rather close-knit bunch … but, then again, quite a few websites have a close-knit membership.

We (ST) are (affectionately) known for our “unpeaceful” nature and blatthering … as well as witty banter … and willingness to not “put it softly” when an “ounce of truth” needs to be served.

At the end of the day, we shake hands and move on and look forward to the topics of the next day.

Like how boxers touch gloves at the end of a competitive round.

MattinSF will get hammered with Mopdahl on cheap wine and both join the Republican party…LOL…

so you’re going to try to balance marisol on your nose?

(just kidding…lol)

i was referring back to your post some time ago where you had pics of the smurfs. it was hilarious.
