Pdf files

I am able to pull up a pdf file in adobe acrobat. The document in question has blanks where you would normally be able to add info if it was a fill in form. Sadly, it is not one. Is there anyway to convert it so I can modify the document then print it out.

Thanks

depends on your version of adobe. If there’s a camera in a box in the top left click on that to take a “photo” of all the text. Then you can use the cursor icon next to it to copy text and dump it into word. The formatting can be hit and miss.

If this is a one-time thing, then just print the PDF file, fill it out by hand then scan it back into PDF format.

If it’s an on-going form that you’ll need to fill out many times, then it would be worth the time to make it a PDF form. You need the full version of Acrobat though, not just the free PDF reader. Here’s some help to get started:

Possibly, if you are using Adobe Acrobat and not just Adobe Reader. You’ll need the full-blown version (not free) to edit a pdf or create a form.

EDIT: I see I was a little late. Had a phone call while typing.

I downloaded a trial version of acrobat last night. Then I open the pdf file in acrobat instead of reader. Then I got lost.

Any direction would be very helpful.

Thanks

I believe my link above will walk you through it step by step.

Not sure if you need Adobe Pro to do this, but you should be able to choose “Save As” and save it as an MS Word document. Make your changes, and then re-convert to pdf (I have a nifty little convert-to-pdf icon right in Word).

This is from the Help section of Acrobat 6 Standard. It’s the only version I have. The key point is that the doc needed to be created with Acrobat Pro. You should be able to fill the form with Standard.

** Filling out forms** Adobe PDF forms contain special fields that let you type text or select options. To fill out a PDF form, the author of the PDF form document must have set up the document in Adobe Acrobat Professional or the Acrobat Content Server with appropriate form fields. If you can’t type text in form fields or select options, contact the author of the PDF form. You can also print the form and export the form data to a separate file. Exporting form data allows you to save the existing data, or to transport it with an alternative method such as email. If you are filling out a PDF form from inside a Web browser, you may be able to submit the form over the Web. (See Exporting and importing form data.) ** Note: You cannot create forms using Acrobat Standard. You must use Acrobat Professional to create forms. To upgrade to Acrobat Professional visit the Adobe Web site. ** To fill out a form: 1. Select the hand tool . 2. Position the pointer inside a form field, and click. The I-beam pointer allows you to type text. If your pointer appears as a pointing finger , you can select a button, a check box, a radio button, or an item from a list. 3. After entering text or making a selection, do one of the following: >Press Tab or Shift+Tab to accept the form field change and go to the next or previous field. >Press Enter (Windows) or Return (Mac OS) to accept the text form field change and deselect the current field. If the current field is a check box, pressing Enter or Return turns the check box on or off. In a multiline text form field, pressing Enter or Return creates a paragraph return in the same form field. You can use Enter on the keypad to accept the change. >Press Escape to reject the form field change and deselect the current form field. If you are in Full Screen mode, pressing Escape a second time causes you to exit Full Screen mode. 4. Once you have filled in the appropriate form fields, do one of the following: >Click the Submit Form button, if one exists. The button may be named differently, depending on the form author. Clicking this button sends the form data to a database across the Web or over your company intranet. >Choose File > Save As, and rename the file to save the form with the data you entered. >Export the form data. (See Exporting and importing form data.) >Print the form. (See Printing Adobe PDF documents.) For information about how to fill in a digital signature form field, see About adding signatures. ** To clear a form in a browser window:** Do one of the following: >Select the Reset Form button if one exists. You cannot undo this action. >Exit the browser, and start again. Clicking the Reload button or the Go Back button, or following a link in a browser window may not clear a form. ** To clear a form in Acrobat Standard:** Choose File > Revert.

Will give it a try.

Thanks

My Adobe “Standard” (not free) edition has a Typewriter feature I use to fill out forms that don’t contain any fillable fields.

Or a very simple and free way is to download the eFax client from efax.com and sign up for a free account. Hit print from Acrobat and then select eFax as the printer. Then you can place text fields where ever you want in the document and print if back out as a PDF or fax it somewhere.
