Looks like ITU racer and Specialized athlete Paula Findlay is getting the new Shiv treatment too.

Sweet! But anyone knows whats that clear tube running into the frame? (correct me if I’m wrong), but is that an integrated hydration system?
Think you are a few weeks outdated here. Yup that’s an integrated hydration system. Check out the other thread on Crowie’s Shiv
Whoops, I’m really sorry there! Hadn’t been on Slowtwitch for a while! My apologies!
Don’t care for the stem/top tube transition. Like the first gen better with the stem level with the top tube!
I wonder if the older version with the stem flush with the top tube caused stability issues. I saw lots of Shivs, in both TT and Tri races, with lots of spacers to raise the aerobars to a more comfortable position.
She had made a comment on her Twitter account a few days ago about heading to Kona to, “check out this Ironman thing.” That would be exciting to see her jump that quickly. But she did have an awesome season in the ITU this year, minus her injury. I assume she’ll be on the Canadian 2012 Oly team and focus on that considering she had those 3 WCS ITU wins.

specialized has almost all their triathletes out in Kona right now including their ITU ones…
Yup. Simon Whitfield tweeted a photo of himself with Rappstar. Really good showing by Specialized.
Speaking of which, they had a program for Specialized bike owners where they would ship your bike to Kona for free if you were competing. Great idea.

Well you are going to have to add stack somehow, the way they add it there is a single airfoil shape, one that shields the cables.
the other way would be two airfoil shapes (pad risers) that shield nothing, and then your bullhorns are lower than you want them.
this way is more structurally sound, places the bullhorns at the same level as your extensions, and may be just as aero.
Wish I had not sold my Specialized…Free shipping is amazing. I’m paying $400 round trip to fly mine to Hawaii.
Based on recent Specialized happenings, I would definitely consider a Specialized for my next Tri bike purchase.
My prediction is that all superbikes will have some sort of internal hydration system in the next 5 years. Shoot the next generation will all have them so it could be within 2 years. Its the new thing…ala integrated headset, hidden rear brake, or whatever. They will all have to have this to keep up. Cool stuff.
Paula is cool…I’m a fan.
However, I have yet to hear about her racing non-draft legal which this bike hints at.
I agree that integrated hydration is (or at least should be) the future.
Specialized is one of the few bike brands I would accept a sponsorship from. Good bikes. (a guy could dream.)

It’s only been a week that we’ve known about this.
Hope you are wrong.
bottle between the hands reduces drag, and works for me at all distances, and is more convenient.
=)

how do you wash the hydration system out ?
Cervelo did say that bottle between the arms was faster for all bikes didn’t they… probably wouldn’t be for someone using the “mantis” approach with arms up. Still I bet trek, cervelo, everyone is figuring out how they can now do this too. It could valuble for long TT too, so pro tour teams will want it.
I think it does work for a mantis position, TJ Tollakson’s setup would suggest it does anyway.

most ITU athletes race the occasional standard format tri. Witness Javier Gomez in dallas this past weekend. I think paula would have to be stupid to switch to ironman at this point. Being ironman world champion wins you fame on slowtwitch…being a good looking woman with a gold medal can probably make you a whole lot of money.

Suprising how Cervelo come out with that a week before a major competitor shows off their integrated hydration system.
