My thinking is that the Canadian TT required minimal bike handling skills. Basically a big flat out and back with a couple 180s. The worlds course had climbing and turns, which Paula probably took much more cautiously than full time professional cyclists.
I was there in person and can confirm: the best bike handlers / strongest athletes were much faster through the corners. I saw Paula Findlay go past about 2k from the finish - thought she looked strong / in control - and 3:4x down on the world champ seems like a very creditable performance for a Triathlete against the very best TT’ers in the world.
Keep in mind she had PTO USA in her legs, a 100km race that was barely 4 full days before. She had a red eye flight to get to UK and then a connection to Glasgow that woudl batter the recovery from the PTO race substantially, losing a full critical night of sleep in the recovery window, and, had to race 6 time zones ahead of Milawaukee.
So putting bike handling aside top 25 is very credible with that lead up to a cycling worlds TT. 3:4x behind over 36 km, or roughly 1 min per 10km , while a world away, is not bad considering. I assume she stays in the region between now and Lahti and won’t have the jetlag to deal with in 2 weeks.
You really think a rider of Reusser’s calibre is going to “blow” not even halfway into a time trial?
Reusser further clarified after there was no real physical reason for the abandoned. It was mental stress after a stressful season and she couldn’t push further.

I’m just watching the entire event on Flowbikes. I’m not sure what i expected but I am somewhat surprised at the difference in equipment by Nation. Everything from road bikes, road bikes with clip-ons, TT bikes with mechanical shifting and rim brakes to the latest in the best equipment and positions.

It was the same at Track Cycling - the top Countries, Great Britain, U.S., other Euro Countries, Australia etc . . all using the latest and very best equipment. Whereas many much smaller countries, often from 3rd world and developing countries, will be using far less sophisticated equipment. Comes down to money and resources.

Yup - they were on the new Canyon as was the U.S. team! The Danes BIG win was in Team Pursuit, where they took down the Italians in the Final. It was extraordinary to watch in that Final - Italy was behind but they put Ganna on the front, with two others clinging to his wheel, and he led for almost the whole of the last kilometer trying desperately to close the gap, and he came darn close!

This is the Paula Findlay thread. Now we just need her to race for Canada in the 4000m individual pursuit and team pursuit and TT and do like Ganna!!!
I know she got bashed on this thread, but her perfomance was indeed impressive. 25th off of that lead up is commendable. Other than Grace Brown who was 6 seconds behind, no one was withing 1 min of Dygert, and 2:26 behind got you 10th. Paula was 3:41 behind. It is still a world away, but subtract PTO from there which would leave one more trashed than a womens TdF two weeks ago, and she is a contender to make top 10. For context and I realize she is not a TT specialist but Vollering, the Queen of the spring classics and TdF Femmes winner was 1:27 behind. Not bad for Paula being 2:13 behind that woman.
