Patella tendonitis

I"ve had patella tendonitis for 9 months, how can i get ride of it?

Have you gone to an orthopedist, yet?

Are you still running/cycling?

Too many questions…

Can you provide some (allot) more detail?

To give any idea of what is wrong or how to solve it, you need to give TONS more specifics, i.e. what makes it hurt the most, what is your mileage run/bike/swim, etc. Two things that gave me problems a few years back were:

  1. pushing too hard off the wall in the pool. Totally unnecessary and tons of extra strain on the patellar tendon.
  2. Pushing over the top too much on the bike, combined with a seat too low. Tons of extra strain on the patellar tendon.
Combining these changes with some Glucosamine/Chondroiten/MSM and Qrings, I’m fine on 200+ bike weeks and 50+ run weeks. Give us more info if you want advice, or better yet…use the SEARCH POSTS function. Just search for “patellar” or “patellar tendon” or “tendonitis” I garunteeee you’ll find lots of useful info.

We need more information on what you are still doing (bike and run volume).

I had the same issues a couple years ago. PT suggested some specific weight training (leg press, calf raise, hamstring curl, lunges (w/ hand weights), step ups (w/ hand weights), and 4-way hip, NO leg extension) that helped. I also got some custom orthotics for my high arch which really helped.

In the end, I believe my high arch is the cause of the problem. The orthotics addressed that while continued weight training keeps the muscles around the joint strong.

Your situation may be different. I would suggest seeing a specialist if you haven’t already.

Assuming it’s just patella tendinitis and not further knee problems:

  1. Physical therapy (to learn a couple quick very effective exercises)
  2. Massage (in the right spot the right way)
  3. Ice
  4. Optional: e-stim for the pain

Couple weeks tops and you’ll be better. Any flare ups in the future just rinse and repeat.
