Patch a wetsuit with a tube patching kit?

Hi All -

I know the issue of wetsuit repair has been covered many times, but I haven’t been able to find the answer to this specific question in the archives.

“Can you patch a very small hole in the seam of a wetsuit with a standard bike tire tube repair kit?”

My 3-year old T1 has developed a small hole right in the crotch area. When I get out of the water, it forms a perfect urinary pattern while draining the water out of the inside of my wetsuit.

Thanks in advance.

You can get a tube of wetsuit repair glue at any dive shop and a lot of sporting goods stores. It’s very easy to use and works well for small tears. I think that would be a much more permanent solution.

Yes. I have done it to my old Bare suit. I had dozens of them on it. Looked really stupid, but it worked. Not sure if they slowed me down or it was the first coming of the dippled wetsuit?

Why don’t you use the proper glue to patch. McNett makes a product called Aquaseal Urethane Repair Adhesive that you can get from your local dive shop or tri shop. You can also get it online at www.trigeeks.ca. If you do pick it up be sure to store it in the freezer when your done as my last tube dried out a the top.
