So just under 2 weeks ago I fell at work and partially tore my MCL in my knee. The surgeon said no surgery, no pt, take pain meds and try to keep the range of motion. I’ve pretty much not done anything at all other than a few pushups and core exercises. I’m itching to do SOMETHING!! I’m not sure if running is a good idea, but I’m thinking Monday I may start cycling… My regular doc says “rest for 4+ weeks” but he’s a bit of a quack and doesn’t know my physical capabilities. Has anyone been through this? I don’t want to re-injure, but I need to do something!

I usually put grade 1&2 injuries back on the bike at the 2 week mark if they have full extension, can fire their quad and can get to at least 90 deg flexion with minimal pain.
But, I’m on the aggressive side with these for low-risk sports.

Why would you call you doc a quack? I’m no doc but I have recovered from a serious knee injury (fully blown acl and fractured femural head) so I have experience. 4 weeks is perfectly reasonable. 2 weeks to EASY cycling if you have full extension. Start doing heel sliders and quad strengthing exercises. Be patient…its just a few weeks. You’re lucky.

Until the EXPERT ie. PT or Dr. says I’m good to go, not some anonymous guy on the internet you’re hoping will enable you to do something silly…

But hey, it’s your knee’s and your life!
If your doc is recommending no PT at all and total rest, and has not educated you on the Grade of the injury, he probably does not have much experience with this injury at all.
It’s a grade 2 partial tear. My Doctor doesn’t have much experience with the injury. I call him a quack due to the organization I am with and his constant use of motrin for EVERYTHING! Thank you for all of your input.
