Those that have been to IMFL in PCB, and those that are going to Clearwater…I’m looking for a suite or small condo in PCB for 3 nights near the Boardwalk Beach Resort. Their website indicates they’re booked out. Anyone have a hot tip?
For the 70.3 Champs in Clearwater, I’m looking to bring my family in a rent a condo or house there from say Weds through Sunday. Any tips on where to start there? Too much info to filter through online, so local knowledge is what I’m looking for.
For IMFL, we (three couples) rented a 3 bedroom suite at the Edgewater Resort right down the road from the race site. I think we were in the Leeward building. We had a corner suite, on the water…it was beautiful and extremely affordable.
The Moondrifter is nice…overlooks la Vela – about a 1/4 mile from Boarwalk.
We camped in St. Andrews Park this year for GCT. It was very nice.
We stayed at Edgewater also. Great place and the view with the sunset. Also, Jay get back to Maryland someday. There is finally a Tri group around Ocean City.
I’ve been to PCB twice. Last year I stayed a the Boardwalk Condos (well worth it). Both times I’ve use www.VBRO.com. That’s a site where you rent directly through the owners. You should be able to get something and it’s usually cheaper than the actual website.
pat
agree with patd about vrbo.com I have gotten great deals at the Summit for IMF and GCT there. Summit is just about a 7 min. walk from the Boardwalk. Feels like a little far if you go back and forth to the expo, etc. alot. I rode my bike most times.
Where are you finding info for Clearwater? Just checked the race hotel website and they are coming up as full, though I suspect rooms are blocked for the event, and I would hope the organizers did that and got a special rate, otherwise I’ll look on hotels.com. The ironman.com website just keeps linking to the same page…no course info, etc. Where is this stuff???
BT, I’m not finding any links on the 70.3 Championships site for accom. yet. I just did a Google search for “Clearwater, Florida accomodation”, and found way too much.
Hopefully I can get some local tips.
Hey PJPJR…I usually come back in Sept., but I’m not sure this year…going to FL for ten days and two tris is going to be expensive, so we’ll see. That’s cool that there’s a tri group there!
I’m not sure I can help you too much with accomodations in Clearwater, but I’ll tell you that there is certainly no shortage of places to stay right around the venue. I thought I had heard it was going to be staged at Sand Key Park, but I just read on their website that Pier 60 in Clearwater is the staging area. If you do a google map search of Pier 60, you’ll see where it is located. There are tons of condo/hotels within a few miles walking/riding distance. You may find cheaper places in a less crowded area like Indian Rocks Beach (IRB) which is only a few miles away (5-10 minutes by car). Clearwater is pretty crowded. This area used to have a bunch of Mom & Pop types hotels for good prices, but the real estate boom has turned it into condo central. Feel free to PM me any specific questions. I’m not in Clearwater, but I’m a life long resident of Tampa and know the area fairly well.
I’ve got a hot tip if your retired or active duty military. The naval support facility is about 5-10 minutes from the race hotel. Nice rooms and you can’t beat the price. They don’t allow bikes in the rooms though.
Thanks G1, but I am not.
Looks like you should just move to Florida.
california is so passe anyway
For Clearwater I’ve heard that Anthony’s Travel? has the exclusive for the Hilton, Sheraton and Marriott hotels which are the ones closer to the race. I also heard that the Hilton will be the host hotel rather than the Sheraton which was the original host hotel.
The official site doesn’t have any info on accommodations or the race course itself, but what can you expect from any IMNA site.
Ha, ha. Yeah, I’m an east coaster originally anyway!
My brother lives in FL, so it’s a good excuse to get over there to see him and his family so our daughter can get to know her cousins. It’s the ten days off work and travel costs that have me worried!
