I can’t get these to pair with the 500. I’ve done a bunch of searching and find virtually nothing on the subject. The only thing I found was that there should be a choice for speed AND cadence vs. the speed/cadence ?All i get is the later. Any ideas?
You may need to update your firmware the on 500…
Joel
Thanks Joel…I have updated the unit via Garmin Express with no luck. Upon initial setup of the 500 I still receive only one option and thats the Speed/Cadence (combo) option vs. the Speed AND Cadence “sub menu” option. I’ve got an email into Garmin and based on the stellar customer service reports I’ve read on the forums I should see an email soon…
I only have the one setting too. Why don’t you try this before search for the sensor go into sensor details before searching and check the second two options instead of the first and then search. I think that is what I had to do to get it recognize the sensor.
Joel
So what version is your firmware now? Mine is 3.30 and I have the options for the combo or just the individual sensors.
should be an option for separate cadence and speed sensors in SENSOR DETAILS tab once in the ant + speed/cadence search page
.
So strange…I keep reading that this should be there as an option and its just not (that i can see anyway). I’ve updated to version 3.30 and no change. Upon “Initial Setup” i get the following screens
Select Language
Select a position format
Select a units format
Select a time format
Select your gender
Select your age
Select your weight
Select your height
Do you own an ANT+hear rate monitor? (select yes or no) I select YES - Wahoo tickr run
Do you own an ANT+Spd/Cad sensor? (select yes or no) I select YES
Do you own an ANT+power sensor? (select yes or no) I select NO
As soon as I hit enter after the power sensor it acquires satellites
The little speed and cadence icon at the top left of the 500 display shows up as does the heart.
AND…now I can’t get the speed and cadence sensors to “activate” on the bike…No green light flashes after rotations. They did after i installed them, and several other times after install while trying to pair. Frustrating!
Menu → Settings → Bike Settings → Select your bike (second option) → Ant+ Spd/Cad.
Sensors present should be Yes, then select Sensor details. That’s where I have the option for the various sensors. Do you have something different there?
Menu → Settings → Bike Settings → Select your bike (second option) → Ant+ Spd/Cad.
Sensors present should be Yes, then select Sensor details.
To hitch hike, once you press the ANT+ Spd/Cad menu item, on the next page, scroll down to the bottom to ‘Sensor Details’ and click the enter button.
On the Sensor Status page, there is a selection menu, scroll down until Spd Sensor is highlighted and press enter and ensure it is checked, then press the Back button to return to the previous page and select Scan or Rescan and then press enter and spin the wheel.
Ok, i’m a dip shit…I wasn’t making it passed the initial setup of the unit. Good to go now with this info…thanks guys!!!
I did exactly this, with no luck.
Perhaps I didn’t spin it up again.
If you have the new accelerometer based sensors I think you need to select spd and cad. sensor since they are 2 seperate sensors.
The spd/cad sensor option is for the old style that had 1 sensor for both and used magnets on the crank and wheel.
It took me a little while to figure it out when I switched from the old style to the new ones.
I have the new ones, since I figured that having a cadence and 2 speed sensors made the most sense, since changing to race wheels and having to monkey with the magnet on the wheelcover on my 404 was HUGE PAIN.
I’ll have to retry tomorrow, since I have to be 10m from the nearest Ant+ sensor, apparently and I have several.
I took the old one off to put on my hardtail.
If you are using 2 speed sensors you have a few options.

You can set up 2 bike profiles and quickly switch between them. Both with the same cadence sensor and each one with a different speed sensor. I think the 500 is limited to 3 profiles so if you have multiple bikes with different sensors like I do that might not be enough.

You can use only 1 bike profile into the settings and search for a different speed sensor every time you swap wheels.
Thanks Zen,
Thats been driving me up the wall for about 2 weeks. Forgot the new style sensors had to be pairs separately. Doh!
