Painting Carbon

Anybody have any experience with painting carbon? Specifically, I’m interested in carbon wheels…the H3C’s. Any idea if they can be painted? If they have some kind of clear coat over them? If the paint will somehow react with the carbon? If it’s possible, I’m considering painting a set of H3C’s. So, please, share your experience and ideas. Thanks!

Its pretty normal application. Sand prime and spray then clear.

I haven’t done wheels but i did the hood on my car.

Why add extra weight and have to worry about paint chips?

Forgive hijacking the thread, but what kind of car is that. Looks pretty cool.

Toyota Supra. Speaking of extra weight, how much reinforcing did you have to do to get those doors to stay on!

We have an awesome custom painter on hand and all he paints custom bikes for us both in carbon and in ti.
The featured flame bike is one really nice option.

I did all the work on the car myself from reinstalling the engine, body work interior work welding. it was quite the project. i’ve driven it a few times now i still need to get it aligned and at least primed so it doesn’t look as dumb driving around lol.

And there is no reinforcedment neaded the hindges for the door bolt directly on there is just a little bit of metal shaving that i had to deal with to get them on. Nothing that major however.

Great car, I had a 95 VR4. I absolutely loved mine, that is until the timing belt broke at highway speed and destroyed the engine. I’m sure you know about timing belts and this car. Mine was at 65K miles only 5K past when the belt change was due when it decided to self destruct.

there was a poster on this forum that did this to his Zipps, if i remember correctly. i’ll search for it…it was pretty fly!

i think it was schwingding actually who did it…haven’t found it yet.

i found it! i can’t see the pics anymore, but you can PM him for them:

Yeah i switched to a reinforced one at like 110k or something like that. i would still switch at 60k or before but at least its supposedly stronger its laced with kevlar.

But in another 60k hopefully i’ll have a newshort block and new turbos so it will be a completly different beast at that point.

schwingding did this to his wheels. i can’t see the pics, but here it is:
