Painful: Russian Athletes pose after IM70.3 Dubai

You would think that a little more respect could have been shown by the Russian participants after their finish at Dubai when IM clearly stated that no Russian flags were allowed and will not be shown on the participants list.
I cannot understand that these athletes show their flag with the pride they do in this pic.

More and more I am ceasing to be surprised by the stupidity of the general public. This just shows that this level of stupidity is something that is universal across the globe.

It must be possible to be proud of your country and be happy to celebrate an athletic achievement with your fellow countrymen and women without being stupid.
And pride in your country can be completely independent of the actions of leaders in your country. Or it should be at least.

See ya and raise ya 10.

Clearly deaf to the killings.

An American private company bans Russian’s racing at their PRIVATE EVENTS under their national flag. It is Ironman’s private party. If you come to a person’s private party, it is probably a good idea to play by the theme of this private party. These athletes probably want and need Ironman more than Ironman needs them.

I see a few TriDubai club uniforms. If I recall correctly TriDubai won the overall club championship. While the club cannot control what individual members do, this is playing with fire if both the individuals and club want to keep playing Ironman.

Overall its probably not a great idea to be flying your country’s flag for anything outside your country when your country is an aggressor in a war. YIKES.

I’d personally like to see all of these individuals banned not for primarily for being RUSSIAN (it is too bad if you don’t get to play because your country is being idiotic…I can have compassion for you but not like your leader) but for their personal stupidity.

EDIT: I got in touch with the prez of TriDubai. It turns out the Ironstar tri club has same kit, so no TriDubai athletes in this picture.

It is possible, although not sure if it is a good time for showing pride in Russia at the current time. One key component would be to not display your flag when that has been specifically been stated as not allowed at the event you are participating in.

Are you actually approving of this specific display? Just wondering where you fall on this?

Agree, they cannot help being Russian and I want to believe that the majority of the Russian people don’t want this war and even don’t want this leader.
But with all the knowledge they have it shows complete disrespect to the rest of the world and Ukrainian people in particular.
And with the comments given by one of their coaches (translated)

‘Again Russian triathletes showed the world the strength of our character. They get what they deserved. And that is the only thing that counts’ and also ‘Ambition and perseverance are the they way to victory! The more you invest-the more you enjoy, and most of all cherish rewards and support! Today we harvest the fruit of the time invested in training on the podium of IRONMAN Dubai’.

You are right they should be all banned, not for being Russian, they can’t help it that they have Hitler 2.0 as a leader but if you are posing with the Russian flag after the race you show complete disrespect and compassion.

To the part in bold, if I was Andrew Messick I would just ban them for being idiots at my party. He told them how to behave at his party, they chose to not play the way the party host asked.

What a shame and stupidity…

I’m Ukrainian who now lives with my family in Copenhagen.

Unfortunately, even now there are so many people in Russia who support the war (they call it “a special operation”). There are also many people who just don’t care (unless their fridge is not empty). And not that many people who are against it. This is pure madness.

My wife has many relatives in Russia and she tried hard to describe what is happening now in Ukraine to them, she asked to tell other people in Russia about the real situation, to go out and protest against the war. No luck. They really do not care. If you saw a recent video from an Ikea store in Moscow that is going to be closed soon - it describes what are the people in Russia are really care of.

Good for them.
They obviously chose to not worry about what the propaganda said about them or their country.
Very rare these days.

I see you’ve decided to crawl out of the hole you live in and embarrass yourself again. I’ve always thought it was fitting your username is associated with being a clown…

Are you actually approving of this specific display? Just wondering where you fall on this?

It’s getting kind of lavender-y in here, but to answer your question, not “approving of ” the display but recognizing the possibility that these individuals, as citizens of a nearly globally disliked country at the moment, in a foreign country together, and have completed a common goal together, are simply sharing that solidarity by being in a group photo.
And being told you can’t fly your flag is enough incentive for most people to fly your flag.

Bad guests 100%, based on what we know of them from the photo. If they are all also Putin-supporting, separate -Ukraine-hating warmongers, then the stupid label can apply.

My main point is they are on the borderline of competing or not as things stand. ironman let them inside their house and don’t need to just like Messick can kick any of us out of his house. For the privilege of racing it’s just wise to play inside the box ironman gives anyone and not push the limit. It’s just stupid to push any limit where you get shut out of racing. These people are just simply tone deaf as they are in the UAE and can hear all the global media and are not just from inside the Russian state media bubble

At the risk of making it more lavender-y, I’ll respectfully point out this criticized behavior happened in Dubai.

People just have no sense of what is morally right or wrong, even if the war was justified the general “man on the street” wouldn’t normally go around celebrating such things.

There were two other stories today;

first the Russian gymnast with the pro-war symbol on his tshirt during the medal ceremony.

Second the Chelsea football fans in the UK shouting the Russian club owners name during a 1minute applause for the people of Ukraine. People living in London, predominately English/British, celebrating a Russian during a tribute to the people in the country his countrymen are currently killing.

Doesn’t really matter if you support Ukraine or not, you should just keep your mouth shut if you don’t and not be seen to be glorifying a country waging war on a neighbour, and killing innocents among others.

Wow, this is tone death! And yet the photo speaks volumes about these particular athletes and their lack of respect and blatent disregard for Ironman’s rules and the people of Ukraine.

Russia is committing war crimes against a peaceful and sovereign nation. Hell has been unleashed on the Ukraine people and many Russians still support Putin and this illegal and horrific war. This photo is deeply disappointing.

Ukrainians can’t race right now as they are dealing missle strikes, gunfire and cluster bombs from Russians. I’m actually surprised Ironman is allowing Russians to race at all right now.

This^.

There are no words for those Russian triathletes posing with the flag in the photograph. Under current circumstances it’s a privilege for them to race. It looks like they need to learn that a privilege is not a right.

That is a whole lot of words to basically say “yes”….
