Pain in the vastus lateralis after long run...what could it be?

During the last two weeks, I have been feeling some acute pain in the outer side of my quad(vastus lateralis) of the left leg. It is mostly after few consecutives days of running long. I thought it could be from running on the left side of the road, but not positive.

Any idea of what might be the cause?

Thanks

Good thought - if you run on roads with a crown and always towards traffic, this can cause this.

Sounds like your ITB (but I’m no doc). and like rroof said…it could be the camber or pitch in the road that’s irritating just the left leg. Take your running to a more even running surface and see what happens. When my ITB acts up I get DT massage and it hurts like hell but feels worlds better afterwards. Good luck.

two words: foam roller
.

Have you looked at the wear patterns of your shoes?

they wear off in the outer(left) side of the heel.
