Little history, broke my left ankle 20 years ago. Never had pain, did half and full marathon for the last 20 year.
Last 2 year started half ironman and no pain at the left ankle. This year, did lots of running during the winter and little pain sometimes indoor.
Started running outside, some pain after 15km but manageable. During the race this year, after 10km, pain was growing to the point of slowing down, pain started on right knee and took me 2 weeks to recover after the race.
I have appointment at the doctor in 2 weeks but was wondering if somebody experienced this.i’m scared that I need to stop doing TRI… ðŸ˜
Wait to see what the Dr. says. Likely just some form of overuse injury. If you were running on a track indoors, its very common to get left side achilles tendinopathies with that type of training.
hopefully it’s not ankle arthritis, but that’s what I have, and it’s been the main limiter in my triathlon racing ever since it started to really kick in last year. Started as a little niggle, now it’s bad enough that if I run a lot or even bike at high power with low cadence, I might even be hobbling the next day. Only mid40s myself now, but that’s alas when a good amount of arthritis starts rearing its ugly head, and you start realizing why the older AGs (55+ esp) get fewer and fewer competitors. All the health issues, and especially arthritis, starts knocking people out of the game.
Hey i also have issues. I don’t have anything to add but i have a few questions:
Why does Achilles tendonopathy materialize when running around a track? I did a track workout for the first time about three years ago and the next day when i got out of bed i felt like i had an ankle sprain. I could barely walk to the kitchen. I was able to walk it off during the day to the point where i only felt a small discomfort, however when i slept and woke up the next day it was even worse. Couldn’t put any weight on it and was on crutches for three days. Went to doctor and he was clueless. Went to massage therapist after i was walking again and she said it must have been strain on glutes that pulled on ankle.
After two years of Achilles tendonopathy in both ankles, i’ve started physio again and putting a lot of focus on exercises (eccentric calf raises, etc) and also started a back to running plan with higher drop running shoes and much higher cadence to avoid heal strike. I think i’ve gotten rid of the AT in right ankle (i can pinch anywhere and can’t feel any pain at all anymore) but for some reason yesterday after the bike, again the right ankle feels like it’s just had a sprain. i can walk but it’s painful. Anyone know what this could be? Arthritis? Is it fixable through exercises?
