Packing bike in bike carrier

Okay, doing a trial run at packing my bike in a bike carrier for Germany. So, never done this before, but slowly seem to be taking
the entire bike apart, it seems. Pedals off. Aero bars/handle bars, off. Rear derailuer, off. Seat and post, removed.

So, the above seems to fit in okay. Now, the wheels. I have removed the skewers. But, even with all the air out of the tires,
at the moment, I do not seem to be able to get the hubs below the aluminum piece in the middle. Is this normal or am I screwing
something up? Even though the top goes one, seems when the carrier gets a side impact, it will hit right on my zipp hubs.

Thanks in advance for the positive help to a newbie at this.

Thanks. Everything until the wheels I have figured out, or heard of. So, thats cool.

It is the last step with the wheels that is different since I am not using that type of hard case.
I have the one with the wheels on the bottom.

Going to go up and try moving the darn wheels around again and see if I am just dumb.

Thanks again, ST is the best place to get help!!

I happen to have 2 different ages of these. I just measured the insides, and one is 1/2 taller so the wheel fits in one,
but not the other.

Dave

which case do you have?

Also, one thing that worked for me in preventing scratches or damage was to go to the hardware store and get some foam pipe insulation pieces (the long foam tubes split down the middle. I cut them to fit and wrapped them around parts of the frame, cranks, etc.

My case came with some cool plastic thingys that fit into the skewer holes on the wheels and protect the hubs. Your LBS will likely have some if you didn’t get any with the case.
You should also have spacers for your frame when you take the wheels out so that you fork and back triangle can’t get crushed.

Good luck!
