Pacific NW 70.3 distance races

Aside from the Pacific Crest half in Sunriver, OR and Ironman Coeur d’Alene 70.3, what are half distance races around Oregon, Washington and Idaho that you would recommend?

I’ve heard good things about Chelan-man. Black Diamond is similar to Lake Stevens, I think. You could always head into Canada as well.

If you’re willing to cross into Canada you have the Whistler and Victoria 70.3’s.

There is a 70.3 in Ocean Shores as well on Jun 3rd.

The Best in the West Triathlon is near Eugene, Oregon. www.bestinthewesttriathlon.com/

How can you leave out Sourdough Triathlon! It is extreme NW, but still in the region!

I second ChelanMan. Great vibe, fun stuff to do post-race in the city/region.

Troika Triathlon in Spokane, WA is another. I haven’t raced it since they changed the course and switched the date from August to May

Based on the current exchange rate come up North and Race.

Races are in BC or Alberta.

Forks? Neah Bay? Never heard of it???

Oh Alaska!

I think everyone has pretty much covered all the options. Every local half I know of has been mentioned, as was the option to race in B.C.

Thank you everyone for your feedback. The Best In The West long course event outside Corvallis is the closest in proximity to me. Has anyone participated in this event? If so, how was your experience?

Best of the West is awesome- great crew and well run. Also + for Troika and ChelanMan.

Lots of good options listed here. Troika is a god race, at least it was in 2004 when I did it. Oliver is a GREAT race, I doubt I’ll ever recommend a half more highly than that one. Blackdiamond is very fun, small and low key. I’m looking forward to trying whistler half this year.

I believe that 2016 was the last year for that one. I raced it then and it was a very small field, no way they broke even on it. Also two years of horrible weather in a row can’t have helped

I’ve done the collegiate Olympic distance race and it was fantastic. Beautiful area and great event. I think I’m going to give the 70.3 a try this year as well.

Great list, but Challenge Penticton is JULY due to ITU Worlds at the same venue in AUG. http://challenge-penticton.com/

Best in the West is a very nice experience. One loop for the swim in a nice lake. Sweet bike riding on rolling rural roads. Run is a little tough with some hills and sometimes heat.

Event is well organized with really nice low-key feel. Best thing to do is camp at the park where the race is … You can walk easily to the swim start. Hope to see you there…
