Pacific Coast Tri

I’m heading to CA to do the Pacific Coast Tri on July 19, anyone have any tips on the course, i.e. hilly, short, long transitions, etc…

The run from the beach up to T1 is a bitch!

My first bit of advice would be to come on the 26th and not the 19th. Otherwise you will be a week early. I’ll be there but have never done the race.

D’Oh. I guess I thought I would get a head start. : )
I’m the RD for a race on the 19th so I guess I had that date in my brain.

Lots of info in the archives…

You don’t need help.

It’s been a couple of years since I’ve done the race. However, I ride on the course 2x a week.

Swim: in the ocean. You walk down the beach and swim back, no loop. The surf is shore break so if there are waves it’s not that bad. Yes, there is a tough climb back up to T1.

Bike: a 2 loops with a couple of hills but nothing to tough. One thing to note, there are quite a few newbies and children in this race…so expect anything.

Run: rolling hills and then you drop down to the beach. Run along the sand, then a good climb back up the bluff(like the run from the swim).

Beautiful course, have fun.

PS: like I said, it’s been a couple of years since I did the race so some things may have changed.

Great info. Thanks.
You obviously live around there.
Any recommendations of a good bike shop to ship my bike?

Edge Cycle Sports in Laguna Woods. Hank will take care of you. This is a fun race and the course is fairly challenging for a sprint. The biggest pain is parking on race morning.

Yea, I would check with Edge or Tribuys. Both are good shops.

Tribuys has a link in my profile. I will check Edge for you.

Was it packed down sand?

Was it packed down sand?

I’ll assume you’re asking about the run. It’s soft till you get to the wet sand(around 50yds I guess) then you run south along the water’s edge for a mile or so(I think).

BTW: You guys might get some waves for the race. The swim area is kinda of protected form a south swell..but it could be fun.

Have a fun race.
