.
As a classical musician, I’m really wishing I had access to youtube right now.
BTW, my sister refers to the composer’s perennial favorite as the “Taco Bell Canon.”
Bookmark this one for later, it’s a classic.
That was awesome!
I was auditioning for a band on Saturday and they wanted to do Basket Case by Green Day without notice. The guitar player turned to me and asked if I knew it. “Of course, its a simple Pachelbel progression. What key are you playing it in?” Blank stares from around the room and I’m the bass player. That was when I started auditioning them. ![]()
OMG that’s funnay, thanks for posting!

For those of us who “suffered” through annual candy sales to fund band trips and uniform upgrades, etc…
I love the “related videos” links in youtube…

In case you never get around to seeing it, I’ll give you a brief synopsis.
He hated Pachelbel’s Canon because he played the cello, and it had the most boring cello part ever. As he got older he founf he couldn’t get away from it, because Pachelbel’s Canon is found in so many songs.
He then goes through probably at least 8-10 modern songs that all use the same exact chord progression. His whole routine is worked out like it was some sort of curse that follows him around.
Ah, why’d you do that? Now it’s not funny anymore. ![]()
Off the top of my head, Puff the Magic Dragon and the theme from Billy Jack both follow the same progression.
“I don’t even go to Taco Bell any more because it sounds too close.”
The theme to Lavern and Shirley, I think, also follows the progression.
Funny, when I started writing music, I was so afraid of playing progressions that other bands have. Apparently its just not that big of a deal. ; ^ )
