Just had a quick question regarding pacers on the run course for ironman 70.3 events? Are they allowed? I know some people that were interested in running beside me towards the end of vineman 2012. Can’t wait to race!
No problem, as long as they’ve done a swim and a bike before the run and have paid the entry fee. Oh and assuming they want to hang back at that point to pace you.
There is very little shade in the second half of that run so I would also recommend your “pacer” bring a shade umbrella to cover you and maybe some cold beverage in case you don’t want to wait for the next aid station. That actually sounds pretty good…maybe get hottie girls in bikinis to do this. It could be a whole new biz model!
As others have eruditely pointed out - Pacers are deemed “outside assistance” and thus are against the rules. Enjoy running with the other 2000+ competitors instead.

thanks in advance,

No, they are NOT allowed on the course. Neither are your kids, strollers, dogs, AA sponsor, priest or any other pseron who has not paid to participate in the race. Time to be a big boy and do this on your own. And “Pacer” to me would infer outside support, that would get you DQ’ed at any of my events.
Why do you need a pacer? If you want - you can borrow my Garmin. It will tell you how fast you are running. It will tell you your average pace. It will tell you your average pace for the current mile you are running. It will tell you distance. It will tell you time.
The only thing it won’t do is yell “Come on. You got this.”
Sorry man, we are just being snarky.
The general rule at most WTC events (and most other races) is that you cannot have any outside assistance.
This means nobody can run with you. You can’t take food/drink from spectators. You can’t grab a spare tube from some dude driving by in his car.
Think about it - If all 1,000 - 2,000 participants all wanted someone to run with them for a while, it would be a mess out there.
If you cousin and uncle want to run alongside you for a few hundred yards, it probably won’t be a big deal. But why risk a DQ/Penalty (I think Pacing is a time penalty, but I’m not 100% sure).
