P90X2 is awesome

I know P90X and insanity have been hashed out before but this offseason I decided to do the new version of X. It is awesome. Tons of balancing and core work. I really feel the benefits of this while running and swimming. Really feel the strength in my core an the stability in my stride. This is made for the triathlete!

I concur! Much more suited for endurance sports. I am a big fan of X2.

Well it’s really good if you want to do things like this.

How so?

The workouts include many more functional, balance, and core exercises which have personally helped me. The original P90X was more about putting on muscle which I felt worked against my endurance training. YMMV

I agree. The first week I hated it. I was used to the original and thought this one was too easy and not geared toward “looking good naked”. Now I’m on week 3, still on phase 1 and have grown to like it. It’s all geared toward core work which will definitely translate to improved SBR.

My plan is to incorporate the Total Body routine once or twice a week once I start my 30 week training toward IM Madison.

You can have your P90 whatever. I prefer this. Admittedly I don’t actually do it. I just like watching.

Funny, I prefer watching this to doing P90X as well. Of course, in the long run, I would probably be better off watching Tony…

Just sayin…

I totally agree! I have been using P90X2 with my ironman training and with my athletes as a coach for the last few weeks and it so well suited to endurance sports…it is amazing. The core and balance stuff as well as the recovery and foam rolling are huge for triathletes. I have created some 90 day plans that use P90X2 and triathlon training for different race distances and started creating challenge groups where people can use the plans. Awesome stuff. http://youtu.be/czUW6yV-ASA WARNING: I am a Beachbody Coach (that means I sell P90X and P90X2 and other Beachbody products) as well as a triathlon coach. Just wanted to be up front about that. I don’t want to sneakily use this forum to sell things. Just agreeing that P90X2 is awesome for endurance athletes. Ryan Chapman

I know this is a little old, but have been doing insanity and think it is pretty good. For the past few years I have had weight that I needed to shed but just doing swim/bike/run wasn’t doing a lot for me in terms of weight loss. I don’t know why I didn’t lose much weight—I had a good diet and ample training. So, in the past 6 weeks I have lost about half the weight that I need to lose. For me, I think the problem is that my tendency was to go out for long stretches but without the necessary intensity. I was able to slog through long runs, swims, and rides…but without pushing the intensity, I think it made it harder to lose weight. While I think the workouts are just a repackaged version of calisthenics and basic weight training, I think having a structure and someone pushing you helps a lot. I don’t think they do a lot overall for tri-specific stuff, I think the videos do a good job of developing overall strength and are a good way to spend the off-season.
