With 11 speed Di2 on a P5 what battery is everyone using. The slim seat post or the “external” in the internal frame cut out? Is the biggest pro of slim is that you can charge it right off the junction box while the larger you have to take out every time?
While the benefit of the larger battery you can hide the junction box inside the stem since you don’t need direct access to it?
I chose the seat post battery for my P5 for the following reasons: 1. I can charge it from the junction box; 2. I would have the junction box exposed anyway to check the status of the battery charge regardless of where the battery was mounted; 3. taking the rear wheel off and unscrewing the cover to get to the battery seemed like a pain in the ass; 4. with the ability to charge the battery from the junction box I can also update firmware for shifters, derailleurs and battery and reprogram shift junctions.
That is exactly what I was thinking. Only thing my LBS already routed the e-tube wires and installed the battery behind the wheel.
I like the idea of having the junction box out and not tucked away in the stem. Its not like its huge and its hidden behind the water bottle cage. I also performed the brake lever hack so I have the 5 port junction box and like the ease of changing things if I have to is way easier with the box out.
So, how hard is it to re-route e-tube wires into the seat post ?
It’s simple. There is a junction box near the bottom bracket. Unplug the current battery, obtain the correct length wire, plug that in to your junction box and battery, mount the battery in your seat post and you’re good to go. I used some home made Sugru to hold the battery in the sea tpost. I posted some photos on the P5 thread: http://forum.slowtwitch.com/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=3731372;page=130;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25;
How far down the seat post did you put the sugru? How much sugru did you need? Thanks
I probably went down the seat post about 1-2". I put the battery in and then used a putty knife to force sugru in around it. I’m not sure how much sugru I used as I made it myself and I’m sure I had leftover. Google “how to make sugru.” It is a mixture of corn starch and pure silicone caulk.
