I’m putting my P2K together, and I’m experienced in this area, just not with some things specific to the P2K. Couple questions…
I’m building this with the components from my Soloist. I know nothing about integrated headsets, and just realized that the P2K is clearly 1" while the Soloist was 1-1/8". I’m assuming that you don’t get to just swap bearings to make it fit. I have to get a new fork AND headset, don’t I? I’m feeling sick.
The set screws… seems kind of crude to just thread them in and have the axle butt against them. Correct method?
The rear brakes hit the seatstays. I had to use two washers rather than one. Normal?
The set screws are merely to move the axle away from the dropout so that the rear wheel will have the appropriate clearance at the seat tube cutout. Different tire/rim combinations will have different radii, and you need to adjust accordingly. The quick release holds the axle in place so as to not put too much pressure on the set screws.
What mechanism would you suggest that Cervelo use to manage this adjustment?
Yes, it is a 1" headset. I take it you bought the bike used and they did not include the fork and headset that orignally came with the bike.
Close. When I returned my Soloist Team frame for warranty reasons, I traded them for a P2K instead. But we never talked about fork/headset. Dammit. So much for what looked like a good deal.
Ken, good question, and I haven’t given it much thought. Just seems odd, because the screws turn so easily, I can see how they could get out of adjustment. I understand the purpose. I guess there’s no elegant (and cheap) solution.
Depending on what type of headset it is you may be able to use the fork. If its a campy style internal headsets then campy makes a 1 1/8 inch hs that will take a 1 in fork.
