I have my last race of the year this sunday (Miamiman 1/2) and am hoping to end the season with a big PR. HOWEVER, I am feeling seriously overtrained right now and need some advice on recovering quickly!!
basically i am not sleeping very well, feel drained and occasionaly slightly light headed through the day and have no motivation to train out of fear things will get worse. I am in my second straight day off and need your advice for dealing with this.
IMO you need to get some sleep and recovery before you think about anything else. You are better off missing a few more days now with a chance to recover then pushing and showing up feeling like you do now. Are you eating well? Enough? I would take it easy and let your body bring you back. If you feel well then you can get some light work in later in the week but you are not going to gain anything by pushing hard now.
You’ll recover at whatever rate your body decides. Just let it happen, but the rate is out of your control. Eat well and don’t do anything.
“I am in my second straight day off—”
Good! Now go for three, maybe four. Maybe more! When, and if, you feel rested, (not more rested, but rested) do something light and easy. Then go have the best race of your life on Sunday.
Really, your body will take better care of itself than you will at this point. Let us know how you did.
