Oval Wheels - Good Deal?

I have done some research, although there is not much out there, so I am asking you all…deal or no deal?

Any experience or input with Oval wheels is also very much appreciated. Thanks

They are solid but unspectacular wheels. Rather than do that I would go to ebay and buy some Chinese carbon clinchers for around $400.

I’ve run most every kind of wheel there is.

When I got back into racing after a year off I had to rebuy everything. So I went cheap with a set of the Chinese clinchers from carbon speed cycle. I have to say that I’ve been very impressed with them. Not as aero as a high dollar set, but the Novatec hubs spin nice, the wheels feel solid and look good as well.

Plus you don’t have to deal with those graphics. The Ovals logos are basically painted or baked on so you’re stuck, with them.

Save the extra $250 for something else.

Oval wheels would cause quite an uneven pedal stroke. I would think you’d want round wheels…

Sorry, I couldn’t resist.

I’ve been racing some 32mm tubulars made by Oval Concepts. They’re the Oval Concepts 932. I wasn’t sure about them at first, but got them brand new. I exchanged a few emails with Oval Concepts and these rims are made by Reynolds. They are actually pretty nice wheels. I’ve used them for road races and crits this season and have been fairly impressed with them. They’re not the lightest wheel out there, especially given they’re 32mm ‘climbing’ type wheels. But the hubs are really smooth and the brake performance has been pretty impressive, even in the rain.

I can’t speak to the aluminum brake track clinchers. I’m sure they’re solid wheels with equally good hubs. I’ve put these through some pretty hard racing and some rough roads with no complaints. For the price, I wouldn’t be scared. Just my $0.02

The funny thing is I raced on untrue wheels this past weekend and it literally felt like I was riding oval wheels lol…too soon as I flatted 3 times and DNF (Ouch!)

GREAT PLAN! There are so many options on Ebay… care to send me a PM about which ones you got since you’re so pleased with them?

Here’s a link to one of their items. This is an 88mm set. I got a 60/88 set. There are lots of options for finish, spoke and hub color etc.

Google carbonspeedcycle and you’ll get their eBay shop at the top of the list.

Very good communication and I actually got the wheels within a little over a week. Just and FYI, the brake pads they provide are not great. You’ll need to buy a set of something better.

thanks Max Daddy!
Here’s another ebay store I found that has similar things.
