Oval A710 Aerobars

How do you like em? Thanks

Mike

Does anybody have these bars?

I have the A910s, the carbon versions. I used them on my last Tri bike with a T2+ base bar. I liked them for the shallow rise. I can’t get comfortable on S-bends or traditional style aerobars. These seemed to be a nice 'tweener. The extension itself is not very long, I could have used another couple of cms. One other thing to consider is because of the design, your wrist is lower than your elbow. If you move the extension up, the arm rest pad also moves up causing an awkward angle. I used them on a road bike and liked them much more as shorties. My recommendation would depend on how you’re using them…aero bar, maybe. Shorty aero bar, yes.

I have them. After one month I’m starting to feel them comfortable.
It has a lot of adjustments but not exactly where/how I need it. For example: poor pad width-depth adjustments (almost lack of the last one).
And I agree with Shawn about extension’s length: it could be a couple of cms longer.
I hope this could help you. Ask your LBS to do a little tour to figure out if they could work for you or not.

Dario

Sorry, my English is not the best.

Except that my arms are too long (even with all their adjustability) I like them.

I probably won’t be keeping them, but I like everything else about 'em.

Shawn, Can you post a Pic?

Thanks guys. I will have to try to find them locally before I pull the trigger. I am really just looking for a low pad height aerobar to get my front end lower. I like my Syntace C2s quite a bit but they are too tall. I may look at the Vision Tech R bend or the Easton EA 70.

Mike

If you are looking for low pad height, then there are other options. I personally like the combo of the Hed Clip-on on a vision basebar. Aero setup, low stack height, comfortable, and more economical than the integrated bars on the market.

At $200.00 the Hed bars are still a bit pricey. Nice though!

Mike

But they are the lowest profile clip-ons that I am aware of. Even considering the higher than average price for a clip-on, comined with a vision base bar they still come in cheaper than the “integrated” bars.

BTW thanks to ebay I paid less than $200 for my Hed clip-ons

I just built a new tri bike and I did something similiar with the front end…Vision Tech base bar, Hed clip-on brackets with the Oval carbon extensions. The Hed/Oval combo seems to put my hands in good relation to my elbows and offers a great deal of adjustablility, which is the problem with a lot of the bars I looked at.

Sounds like a great set-up. Got any pics?

This thread got me looking around the Oval site, their new answer to visions basebar/ clip on combo…
which is known for it’s adjustability and options and affordability.

An aluminum version of the A900. Very cool. If I myself weren’t riding the VT basebar with hed clipons(I too am going to get oval single bends eventually), I’d give this oval 701 a good look.

Sorry to be so off topic…

Here they are at a great price http://aebike.com/page.cfm?PageID=30&action=details&sku=HB7005

I was looking at the link you provided and I noticed in this side photo that the highest point of the S bends are considerably lower than the pads, which guarantees that the forearm will be sloping down. I personally do not like bars where the extensions connect under the base bar. I like the way that the hed bars are since they are even with the base bar.

Here is the pic that I am referring to:

Yeah, a person woud either need different extensions, or lower pad height.

Yeah, soon and I’ll post them. It could have got a little expensive building this set-up but I had the Oval extensions already, so I saved there. I got the alloy S-bends with the Hed clip-ons and with some cutting, you can get a very similiar position as the one I built with the Ovals.

I have these bars with the s-bends. I mounted the arm rests right on the bar without risers (shorter screw). Works great for me.

Here are some pics of the front end:

Damn Shawn, that is a hot setup. Just to be clear, which aerobars are those? I know it’s the Vision bb but I’m not sure about the rest.

Thanks!

Thanks. It’s a Vision Tech 40cm alloy basebar, Hed Clip-Lite pads and brackets (all one piece) with Oval A910 carbon single-bend extensions and Tektro carbon brake levers.
