Ouch. Blister on foot. Help

Just came home from a half-marathon. The US Half Marathon in SF. It was great! Foggy and cloudy, but otherwise it was perfect temperature for running.

Now I have a blister on the ball of my foot, right below the toes. It hurts when I walk. During the run I thought it was just a rock or a pebble in my socks, but apparently not.

Not sure how I got a blister there. I’ve never gotten one during training, and I was wearing Ultimax coolmax socks.

Anyway, any recommendations how to deal with this? Tape it? Leave it alone? Pop it?..

Take a needle and thread and pass the needle through the blister from one side to the other. Cut the needle off, and leave the thread hanging out of both sides. This will wick the fluid out and stop it from closing back up and re-filling with fluid.

Thanks Monk. This sounds amazingly painful though. :frowning:

Pop it! Pop it!

Actually I have no idea what you should do , but maybe it will hurt less if you get the fluid out.

Did you wear the coolmax double layer blister resisters? They really work for me. I never blister in smartwools either. I do a little preventative medicine as well by putting a few globs of Aquaphor lotion on places I get hot spots. Aqauphor works great on the privates for long rides too!

Nope. Just the Ultimax cool0lite low anklet socks.

Think I realize why I got a blister there. I’m used to running on flat terrain. This was a hilly course. My body shifting its weight forward and back probably led to it.

What’s Aquaphor? Is it like Bodyglide?

Aquaphor is thicker than body glide and in my humble opinion has more staying power. It’s more of an ointment. I recieved a small tube of it several years ago in a race goodie bag and have been using it ever since. It works great on chapped skin and as a lip lube too.

You should be able to find it at any drugstore and on drugstore.com.

This is not painful at all.

I learned this from someone named “Reback”. Google “Reback” and “Triathlon”. These people have seen it all and know what they are doing.

Trust Monk, he is the expert.
