OTTOLOCK - cool bike lock kickstarter

Phil Gaimon (of Cannondale team) posted this on twitter, and I thought it was pretty cool. I don’t have a lock, mostly because I’ve been waiting for something small like this. But this seems really cool: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ottolock/ottolocktm-the-go-anywhere-cinch-lock-for-bikes-an

I missed backing it at a level that I’d want to pay, so now I’ll likely just be waiting to buy one, but still seemed worth mentioning.

I call BS at it being that cut-resistant. I would buy one, if they refund me if I am able to cut it with regular cutting tools.

I might use it to secure my front wheel and then a regular U-lock for the rear wheel / frame.

Edit: looking closer at the photo - a 3 number combination? I can break that by trying numbers in about 10 minutes.

I commute by bike and lock it with a cable+u-lock in the parking garage of my office. I would NOT leave my bike parked on the street in any neighborhood all day or overnight regardless of lock.

To me, this seems like something you would take on a ride when you want to stop for lunch, coffee, etc. and not be stressed about someone walking off with your bike.

Better than than the “helmet lock” I find myself using in those situations. I see it more of a way to keep honest people honest than prevent a proper bike thief from walking away with your P5 when you leave it locked on Market Street overnight. And you can actually throw it in a jersey pocket.

Not even joking, Powercranks is the best security device out there. I am waiting to see a thief pedal away with my bike…

Oh I agree. And I can see other good uses for it – like locking your wheel to the frame when you put your bike on the bus, so someone can’t grab it at a stop and ride off with it.

Bait bike and youtube it please…
