OT: Where to stay in San Diego

Hi,

I’m hopefully going to be in San Diego next February for a conference. It takes place at the Town and Country hotel, which is too expensive for me as a student.

Any suggestions on a good place to stay there? And on where to rent a bike?

Thanks!

Lots of cheaper hotels near there…

I was just there a couple of weeks ago and paid $115 a night. IMO isn’t all that nice a place (they do have wireless broadband though). There are several hotels just across the street that are within walking distance to the conference center but I’m not sure how expensive they are.

I went for a run behind the fashion valley mall west along Friars Rd (separated bike path). Then when you get to sea world drive there is a frontage road on the south side of the road that provides some running off of the pavement. There is probably a fair amount of running around mission bay, but it is a fair ways if you are running from the T&C.

The cheapest one I found so far costs 65$/night. Still has a heated pool though  It’s called the “Mission Valley/Hotel Circle Travelodge”.

Thanks! You can even see the frontage road on google maps.

There is a running path/sidewalk that runs all the way from Mission bay to Qualcomm Stadium along the south of Friar’s road. You have to cross the river a couple times…it can be a little tricky to follow your first time. Do a 3 mile lap around Fiesta Island…triathlons birthplace so to speak.

Don’t know anyplace near Mission Valley to rent a bike unless you want a beach cruiser. You might go to Hi Tech Bikes and shop for a new litespeed.

probably the cheapest place to stay in SD.

I’m not up on the hotels. If you make it out, hop a coaster train to North County and we can rent you a decent road bike from Nytro.

Thanks to everyone who answered! I’m already feeling at home there
I will definitely drop by at Nytro.

PM me when you’re here. I’ll pick you up and drive you to a good running spot.

Seriously…

(you just have to run slow enough to stay with me  )

I’ll go too!!

I was thinking every out-of-towner should do the Solana Beach to Rancho Santa Fe Golf Course loop at least once.

Or just start from San Diegieto, it is the offseason you know!

That’s actually a good idea. That way, the full loop around the golf course isn’t so far. I think I’ll drive up there and do that this coming Sunday (family will be at the in-laws and I’m free for 3 days!).
