it’s actually beautiful. My sister has been living there for 3 years now. The air is super clean, as well as the water. You can drink the water straight out of the faucet. Downtown is nice. Not too many A-Holes like in Downtown Los Angeles. As for the rain. It isn’t as bad as Seattle. Which is 3 hours away I think. I am considering moving there in a few years.
I second what LC said. I do miss it up there big time. If we had any family close by at all, we would have stayed put.
As for the weather, you get 9 months of rain, then 3 gorgeous months of summer. Mid to low 80’s, blue skies, green all around. Doesn’t get better. The first winter is rough and long, but you get used to it. Just go on a trip somewhere sunny over Christmas or sometime in the middle and it’s very manageable.
You won’t be sorry if you do go there.
9 Months of RAIN!??!?!?!?!?!
Holy Cripes?
Are you serious? I can’t do that.
I should say 9 months of clouds…rainy most days. Oregon rain, though, is more like a mist for the most part. It’s always wet for 9 months…just not necessarily rainy.
All that wetness, though, leads to the beautiful summers I mentioned. No place better.
it’s cloudy and raining right now. but it’s not real rain, it’s just drizzle. for comparison, portland gets as much rain (in inches) as atlanta does, but far less than seattle. the fall is unbelievable, nice weather and scenery.
here are some climbs in the portland area, can’t beat the riding here.

I usually go to socal every winter for a week, which doesn’t help. Makes me want to move away from the rain.
I used to live in Salem (a hour south of Portland). The winters had a lot of drizzle but there were also a lot of dry days mixed in. The summers were hot and dry. I prefer the weather there to Vancouver or Seattle.
Think cyclocross. So fun there should be a law against it. If you are a crappy swimmer it is way better than triathlon. There are probably25- 30 races a year and you never have to leave town. And the entry fees are from $5-30 per race.
Portland is one of the hotbeds, they also have a track there. It is pretty grey in the winter, but when it is clear there it is one of the prettiest places on earth. Short drive from year around skiiing, windsurf mecca, and plenty of outdoors stuff.
