This is slightly off topic, but since there are plenty of law enforcement and military here, and triathletes/runners tend to be a little picky about their feet, I thought I’d ask. I’m looking for a new pair of uniform boots. They need to be:
Black
Leather (could easily be a leather/cordura mix, but the toe has to take a shine)
Around an 8" height (i.e. full boot)
Comfortable (We Navy guys spend a lot of time on our feet on steel decks)
And here’s the kicker,…steel toe
I currently swap between a pair of Rossi ankle length slip ons and a pair of Magnums. The Magnums were the best fit I could find in the greater metropiltan Corpus Christi TX area, but they’re not quite right. The Rossi’s feel good, but the Navy is moving to a BDU style uniform, and I need full height boots. I used to wear Bates lites, and they were so-so. Any advice or recommendations would be great, but please don’t forget the steel toe requirement.
I’ve been really happy with my Oakley assault shoes and would recommend the boots, but I do not think they have the steel toe.
Oakley might have something, plus they have a military discount which is pretty nice. If I have a choice I’ll try to buy Oakleys due to the program they have for the armed forces.
You may try the Danner “Striker GTX” line. They have a steel toe ankle zip. I have the shorter ones w/o steel toe and I love them. Most of my day is standing either on concrete or tiled concrete. Not as heavy as some of their line, only drawback is they can’t be resoled.

Kevin
i have these for normal duty cause there a bit more like a shoe fit…but my acadias are warmer and have a better sole
I’m not especially looking to stir the pot, but didn’t you just say this a couple days ago, here in post #222:
“The issue is only slightly about whether or not the post was topical. It certainly isn’t. This thread has nothing to do with triathlon in any way. The fact that the person in the pictures is a triathlete doesn’t make the thread triathlon related. It rightly belongs in the LR, and that’s where it is”
To your point, just because there are some triathletes out there that are in one form of service or another, doesn’t mean this thread is triathlon related. I’d suggest posting it in the LR if you really believe what you said only 5 days ago. That is, unless you plan on wearing these tactical boots during a race, then by all means you’ve come to the right forum.
Love them and I’m picky about my boots…sometimes I’m on my feet in them 12-16 hrs. The toe box is nice and roomy so when/if your feet do swell there is room and the non-steel safety toe makes them lighter than a traditional steel toe boot…plus EH rated if you work around high voltage. Combine the Matterhorn ICBs with the Thorlo Combat Boot Socks and you’ll be comfortable all day long…even with the added weight of kevlar, IBA, and weapon.

I have the oakleys, based on your requirements go with the Danners or Bates.

Hence the “OT” right there in my title. I made no pretense to this thread being topical.
"Anyway, continue. "
Gee, thanks for your permission. Get over yourself.

Huh, well I think (and this is just my opinion) KNOWING it was off topic and posting anyway is WORSE than posting off-topic and not knowing it. You broke the forum rules full well knowing it, that surely doesn’t make it ok.
I wouldn’t think it was OK to shoot someone just because prior to pulling the trigger you said “I know this is illegal, but…”
“Gee, thanks for your permission. Get over yourself.”
Sorry, the “Anyway, continue” was supposed to be in pink. And don’t get pissy with me because you are setting a double standard for yourself against others.
