OT but significant: Daniel Craig is likely the new James Bond, 007

CNN Entertainment reports that heir apparent to the Bond dynasty will be actor Daniel Craig, replacing Pierce Brosnan as the fictional character agent James Bond, 007 of the British Intelligence Agency MI6.

i don’t know him but the other actors on the short list did nothing for this serious Bond fan. i mean c’mon: Juda Law (wimp), Colin Ferret (no class). yo uknow who would be great would be the guy from the Transporter movies! those were awesome!

He just doesn’t strike me as the “Bond” type. I mean Bond can’t be a blonde guy.

Agreed.

You mean Jason Statham. He was good in ‘Lock Stock and two smoking barrels’ as well. Oh well. “Do you expect me to talk…”

Tom Demerley should be the new 007.

Why?

He’s good at outdoorsy, action stuff, he likes to travel, he can fix things, he’s good with acronyms (BFA etc), and he has that dark, devil-may-care look about him.

It’s a lock, if you ask me. ;

I think he will be a good Bond- a Bond for the times.

I think we need a new Bond character- tougher and more serious for the times. If you look at Sean Connery’s bond in Thunderball he was a very serious character. There was little or no humor or self-parody. He played it straight, very much like the Bond that was in Ian Flemings books.

These are serious times and I think people want to see a “real” super spy character that saves the world. The success of “The Bourne Identity” and “The Bourne Supremecy” seem to confirm that.

The last Bond movie came out on my birthday, and I was in the theater when it opened. It was a great birthday present. That opening scene with the tactical surf-board insertion into North Korea- that was cool. Very Bond.

This new guy may be one of the best Bonds ever. They all take getting accustomed to, but I think he is promising.

They’re still making James Bond movies? Why?

We need “another” Bond, like we need another Friday the 13th or Rocky movie (I know, they are making VI).

yo uknow who would be great would be the guy from the Transporter movies! those were awesome!

That’s just it … the Transporter is a great character. They don’t need to gay him up to be the next Bond. They don’t need to make “Transporter III” under the guise of “James Bond” … just go ahead and make “Transporter III”.

Bond has been diluted enough.

I agree - I like the bond of the Ian Flemming novels - tough and had a scar on his face.

As bad as Timothy Dalton’s movies were (not his fault), he was 'kinda this way and I liked him. I did NOT like Roger Moore. I didn’t think I would like Pierce, but I did.

We’ll see how Craig does.

Anyone who tags Sienna Miller has my vote for bond. Damn she’s hot.

Why?

The Bond movie franchise is the largest money-making movie franchise in the history of cinema. Revenues from all 20 Bond films are well in excess of $1 Billion.

The last several Bond films have been wildly profitable since the production costs of the film are largely offset by product endorsements and placement in the film such as BMW motorcars, Omega watches, Ford Motorcars (Jaguar, etc), clothing labels, PDA manufacturers, etc.

The Bond franchise is a time capsule as well that tracks political and technological societal trends through the past four decades. From the introduction of the compact camera and tape recorder (“This, Mr. Bond, is an elec-tronic voice tape recorder… you speak, into here.”) as a “spy gadget” to laser weapons and GPS the Bond character has introduced the technology we will all be using five years (or less) from now.

Bond is significant literature despite its whimsy. The Bond formula has spun of hundreds of “super spy” action heroes from Mission Impossible’s Ethan Hunt to the movie “XXX” to even super-cops like McGarrett in Hawaii Five-Oh. Bond has had an enormous impact on popular media.

In one of the last James Bond books, *A High Time to Kill, *Bond pursues an international terrorist deep into his high altitude mountain retreat in Central Asia- not unlike the modern factual effort to capture Sheik Usama Bin Laden.

Frivilous, womanizing, lethal, adventurous, stereotypical and ridculous- Bond has set the standard for the fanciful action - thriller.

The Bond franchise is the sugarey breakfast cereal of the movie industry.

I knew the name seemed familiar, but didn’t realize it until I saw the picture.

Daniel Craig was the main character in “Layer Cake”…another one of those British sorta-humor/morbid crime caper movies. I think it came out last year. Good flick.

Booooo hissssss. I’ve never heard of Daniel Craig but that’s no Bond. Why are they dissing Pierce? I’d rather watch Connery at 70.

Yeah my off-the-cuff remark was without much thought.

Bond movies are here to stay and do make a ton of money … and many people seem to enjoy them.

I guess I compare the Bonds to Connery … and well, they don’t match up very well. I guess that’s just the way it goes.

As far as successive movies go, they are among the most successful.

Perhaps, I would enjoy the books more … where the mind can imagine what “Bond” is like rather than having his character revealed by whoever the latest Bond is.

.

Who has even heard of this guy? Well, for one- I haven’t. Just looking at him, I think he has some decent potential. He’ll have to grow his hair out some more, work on that tan, and hope that makeup can do its magic.

I think we need a new Bond character- tougher and more serious for the times. If you look at Sean Connery’s bond in Thunderball he was a very serious character. There was little or no humor or self-parody. He played it straight, very much like the Bond that was in Ian Flemings books.

While I think yer dead right that we need a tougher, more serious Bond, you have to admit that Connery played up a lot of the wry British humour. His early movies were definitely a notch above current fare, but I thought Dalton made a horrible Bond. He always looked flushed and scared…not what Bond is supposed to be. I thought that Brosnan did a pretty good job, even though the plots turned cheesy and some of the things he did (like how he opened doors and stuff) in “super-secret-sneaking-mode” was pretty retarded. I blame the director mostly.

Anyway, this could be an interesting new Bond. He didn’t make an impression in Womb Raider, but then again I was kinda distracted.

Tom - please tell me you didn’t like Lazenby the pretty boy Australian model. Thank God Connery back after OHMSS.

nope. he was lame.

I agree 100%
