Original Timex Ironman watch

I believe this is the original Timex ironman watch, or maybe one of the first since it does have indiglo

Can anyone find a picture of an retired pro wearing it? Dave Scott, Mark Allen, etc. ?

I plan to give this watch to a friend as a gift and I would like to include a picture of its era.

Thanks in advance.

Not sure if this is an original , I bought one of the first watches at the 1984 Ironman when it was released ( I wish Id kept it)

My recollection it was a 8 lap and was black and orange in colour
.

I can’t help you, but I can can’t resist saying I still have mine from 1985. Different strap though.

God Damn, can’t believe how much it has changed from the first Ironman in '78 on Oahu to now in Kona in less than 40 years from just looking at photos (I was born in '91 so I’m sure it’s an even greater change for those who’ve seen the transformation from the start). Like that helmet this lady’s wearing.

Definitely not an original as they were black as well as the fact that Indiglodid not come about until 1992. Based on the Wiki for the watch the original style was in production till 1991. If I’m reading the history right the first Indiglos got the same styling as the original watch but they weren’t blue.

That’s a Skid Lid. It was basically a hardshell version of a hairnet helmet with some gray EVA foam (like running shoe midsoles) and a plastic shell. They were quite popular in the early 80’s, but died once helmets actually had to meet crash standards (ANSI and Snell back then…similar to CPSC now).
