i got a 3.8. it tears the heck out of my neck. i pretty much get a red scabby line across the front of my neck each time i wear it. i look like a teenager who has a hickey (ie ‘lovebite’) from making out with someone who has gone from one side of my neck to the other.
i am not sure if i will get an orca wetsuit again (had a speedsuit previously). for the moment i am stuck with it and i actually like it aside from the neck assault. you’re not meant to use vaseline huh?..i’ve been in tris for 4 or so years and never really used a lubricant on my neck, but this 3.8 just tears it apart!
that bodyglide stuff is ok huh? what are some household products you could use? just saw a friend who surfs and he uses sunscreen and it seems to work.
Bodyglide works like a charm. I had NO skin left on the back of my neck after O-side this year. After CdA with bodyglide, I don’t even have a mark. Amazing stuff!
Same for me. 3.8 felt decent when I tried it on but after 10min swimming I had bad irritation on both sides of my neck. Unacceptable, so I sent it back and picked up a 2XU Elite…much better.
Yea… i did a write up on wetsuits about 2 weeks ago… i swam in everything under the sun except the Zoot. The Orcas in general are much looser in the neck area… I found i had to re tighten them when the suit was wet, because they had so much give.
I swam in my new 3.8 last night for the first time and I too haev the same red ring around my neck today, I’m actually embarassed to be at work! I never had any Body Glide with me last night when I shower up at the pond but will definitely try it tonight… other than that the suit is absolutely awesome!
I have a new 3.8 and the first time I swam in it I got a mean red line around my neck and a pretty big scab in the back. The next two times I used BodyGlide. No more red mark.
Sorry to hear about your neck problems. I was just down in Lake Placid, NY and on Sunday morning I had about 20 people out testing Nineteen wetsuits - either Tsunami’s or Frequency’s. People where swimming either one loop or 2 loops of the IMUSA swim course. Not one person came back with any neck problems, despite wearing a what would have been a totally new and different suit for them.
