Orbital Odyssey (Backyard Gravel Ultra)

Hey Everyone!

I’m Trevor Slawnyk, the organizer behind a couple of gravel events in the Lincoln, NE area, and I’m excited to introduce a brand-new concept in gravel cycling:

:rocket: The Orbital Odyssey

  • Date: Saturday, April 5th, 2025
  • Start Time: 8:00 AM
  • Location: Branched Oak Observatory, Raymond, NE

The Orbital Odyssey is the FIRST-ever Backyard Gravel Ultra! Here’s how it works:

  • Riders complete a 12-mile loop every hour, on the hour.
  • Keep going until only one rider remains!
  • No set end time. No set final distance. Just you vs. your limits.

You’ll start and finish each loop at the Branched Oak Observatory, where we’ll have snacks, drinks, and support to fuel your adventure. And if you bring the family, there’ll be fun activities for them too, including stargazing after dark!

This is your chance to take on a true endurance challenge—a test of strategy, grit, and willpower.

Can you go to infinity…and beyond?

Follow along on our website, Facebook and Instagram!

If a more traditional gravel event is more your speed, I also have an event on September 27th, called the Dozinky Doozy. Almost 11,000ft of elevation gain over 120 miles (in Nebraska!) Registration for that will open in April!

Cheers!

Is there a link to the 12 mile route?

I was just thinking about this the other day and was wondering when someone would do a “backyard” for a bike and wondering what the distance would be. Good job on pulling it together!

Definitely seems like a fun event, not sure I can convince the wife to head to Lincoln this close to MidSouth, but she has a soft spot for that part of the country so we’ll see.

I would also be interested in the lap(s). There are some interesting logistics to consider for a ride like this.

Good luck!
