Question for those riding the Orbea Ordu 2009/2010 model (you know, that matte black Death Star that Craig Alexander rode).
Obviously frame fits vary (sometimes considerably), but would folks who normally ride a 53-55cm frame opt for a size 51 in this model? I’m looking to pick up one of these (not too easy to find, btw), and ran across an article showing Alexander’s set-up. According to the article he rode a size 51.
Now, Alexander’s what…5’10, at least (Wiki lists him at 5’11")? I thought maybe the frame size was a misprint, but this week on eBay, same model and size (51) for sale by a fellow who’s 5’9" and wrote that the size 51 fit him perfectly, and could be adjusted to fit someone taller (sure, maybe it wouldn’t be that great of a fit, but still).
Anyway, 5’9", 31" inseam here, just curious if those of similar height are riding a 51 or 54. Thanks for any thoughts on this you care to provide.
I was going to post a similar question. My measurements are 5’7 and a 30 inch inseam, which would ‘normally’ be around a 51 inch frame. But the Orbea geometry for the Ordu would suggest a 51 inch is for measurements closer to 5’9 - 5’10. So anyone else have experience with a 51 inch frame of similar size to me? Maybe i need a 51 but the fit is a more relaxed position. When I look at Crowies position on his Ordu, he does seem quite relaxed and stretched, more like a road bike fit.
Stack and Reach are your friend, best to go to Dan’s numerous and excellent articles on fit to decide. You will also see that deciding size purely based on height is spurious for tri bikes.
For example I am 5’6" and would ride a 51cm Ordu, my boss is 5’9" and rides a 51cm Ordu. We ride the same size because I am short legged, long torsoed and like to ride steep around 80 degrees, he has a shorter torso and rides more slack around 77 degrees. I would run a low profile aerobar to get the front end low, he would run a high profile to raise the pads.
The 51 and 54cm are what are called “short and tall” bikes, the 57… well I think its stupidly sized and I’ve told them, hopefully they fix that in the new non UCI multisport models for 2012.
I would as always very strongly recommend anyone considering a tri bike purchase who doesnt know their size to get a fit using a fit simulator by a store familiar with tri bike fit and work backwards from there.
I have a 2008 and am a 54 - I really like the setup. I’m 5’11.5, long torso some would say. For some reason I thought Crowie started out at 51 and then moved up?
I’m not taller than Kyle. But I’m pretty close for a girl. Also, I like Kyle.
I’m 5’11" and ride a 54 Ordu. It’s too small for me, I’m uncomfortable, thus I never ride it. I should have gotten the 57. I can’t imagine a 51 even being possible!
Thanks. I missed you all a lot. I knew I couldn’t make it this year - so I gave up my spot. Rumor has it I can come back next year – we’ll see how the season goes and if I find my tri-love again. I hope you bought lots of booze at gas stations.
